Looking to buy a new kite. I have a crossbow 12 and a gaastra 16.5
I want to get something around 9m for the currently cranking Perth wind. I switch between my twin tip and my surf board frequently so an all rounder would be good. But I seem to be riding more surf style lately.
Anyone have any opinions/comments of pros and cons for the rebel and the noise? Bar and setup?
Would like to have a try of each but a few comments would be appreciated.
Go the Rebel, the only people who push the BWS are team riders!
The Rebel is crisp and direct, great in the waves it's only downfall is unhooked and loops.
Try them and decide yourself.
The Rebel definitely has a lot of followers and is a good kite.
I switched up my quiver this year and tried to demo everything I could get my hands on. The Rebel did not do it for me. I ended up buying BWS.
The 8m Noise kite is the size you'd be interested in. Great kite!
Other kites I tried (and you probably should consider) are the Wainman Smoke, Best Kahoona and TS.
Everyone has different needs and preferences. Demo and demo some more.
Strange choice of kites ? 2 very different kites.
The rebel is a awesome allrounder, it doe's everything better than most,
The noise, has been designed for waves, if you were to compare the noise to the reo it would more sense.
Sounds like you should do some homework then demo, demo, demo.
imho. Hope this helps ![]()
Second that, they are not worth comparing. The BWS is not an allrounder. It is a wave kite, it works really well for down the line surfing in good crisp well formed waves, just like we get in Perth????
if your looking for somthing as an allrounder look no further that the best TS, rode one of nigel's 7m demo's and loved it, fast agile and fantastic unhooked (waves)
and to my surprise it threw done some pretty monsterous loops ![]()
the noise is a 2year old dated design, plenty of kites that fit your bill and do hell of a lot more when required
No one ever mentions the BWS as great for jumps, but because it has a flat outline it cranks for high jumps. You should have fun with that.
There is a few schools around that use BWS. Im sure one wouldn't mind lending you one for a go.
Again, I suggest doing as many demo's as you can get your hands on but the reason I personally picked the Noise was that it is a great kite in the waves and it still boosts like crazy with great float.
Lots of good choices out there but don't let anyone tell you that the Noise is a 'waves-only' kite.
Have fun deciding.
The BWS is being merketed as a wave kite, sure but actually a great alrounder and personaly like to ride my 6m (7m) BWS with a twintip, gives me nice floaty jumps, easy to relaunch,
Had go on the 2011 Rebel 8m, very smooth kite, easy to fly, I felt that the BWS was slightly directer, but a bit slower. Only thing I didnt like about the Rebel was the strange line set up.
BWS bag is a joke, but not an issue for most.
Demo them both, the BWS isnt so popular just because of the price and the bar must be one of the best availabe.
North have an unbeatable reputation for good quality and reliable performance.
Ive got the 8m which is probably more like a 10m in other brands and it floats great, but Ive not tried the 6 metre.
I have seen many bws kites in the air and they look a decent kite. But comparing them to say the rebel for hight and float is absurd. Chalk and cheese.
If you want a wave kite that drifts , REO ,way more stable in gusty conditions and drifts like no tomorrow. The Drifter is supposedly great aswell as the name suggests
As everyone knows I ride Rebels and that's that, I have flown the BWS twice in 8m and 10m in different conditions, quite simply you have to try them, they are so different, very different.
Once you have flown them then you can make up your mind, it won't be a hard decision.
It might come down to money too, but you will find it hard to justify the decision only on that.
Note that although the BWS is a wave kite exclusively and the Rebel an alrounder, the Rebel has been and still is simply the best wave kite around, i am not knocking the BWS on that, but the Rebel does do it all, at the top level, also unhooked and freestyle with the last 3 years of kites new checken loop set ups, especially the new 2012.
like I said, test them, then your decision will be easy.
Daz
Agreed once you have tested both ( if you have some experience up your belt) you will see their is no comparison. Not knocking the bws, it is what it is and I see lots of guys out on them (never seen much boosting) and they seem to work well in the waves, but again comparing them is absurd. The rebel does it all, the bws doesn't. And nothing turns on a dime, nor has such a direct feel as the rebel in my opinion. Spent 11 years and never felt like I had found the right kite until I bought the 2012 rebel. The search is over and my bank balance is looking much healthier!!
And ridden them, not a great deal, but I've been doing this a long time man, from the early foil days to now, can get a good idea about a kite pretty quick. The BWS is what it is, but they shouldn;t be compared. Different concepts.
No your comment is silly. If they are kites built for the same purpose/market then a comparison is worthwhile as someone can then pinpoint the right kite within the style they are choosing to pursue. Comparing a rebel and a BWS is silly as they are different concepts. Compare the BWS with a REO for instance, specifically wave kites. The rebel is a fun and tight allrounder. But I reckon if you were on a 6 foot, barrelling bali wave, I'd rather be on a BWS, it does drift really, really well. But i rarely kite this, do you?
i just bought myself a 2012 rebel and am happy with it. great all round kite. boost's really well and is fast and great in the waves. plus u gotta look at what's going to last the longest? my choice the rebel!
Has anyone compared the 2012 Rebel with the 2012 Crazyfly Sculp? Which one do you prefer as an allrounder kite?
aren't they both wave kites?
i cant see why you wouldnt use the noise as a all rounder kite, same as the rebel, both perfectly ok for that.
for some reason i always thought of the rebel as best suited to strapped in, powered wave riding (must keep lines tight) and the noise as the unstrapped wave riding. put me straight on this?
i'll have to have a go on the 2012 model, last one i tried was the 2008, see if i can feel this totally different kite. can u hook me up tony?
