My Comments:
I am thinking of getting a 2010 Core GT 9 mtr. I weigh 76-78kg and kiting mainly in 18-25 knots on a 136, 2010 North x-ride board in small waves and chop at trigg. Is this the right kite for me as I only want 1 kite. Any help you can give would be great.
if u get just one kite a 9 is pretty much the best pic as it works the best in most of perth conditions, has enough top end to take a few of the higher wind days and enough low end for if it gets a bit dismal, i only have 1 9m hifi comp now and so far ive got a range of 16 - 24 from what ive flown it in and could probably get more top end if i just rode hooked in all the time
The Core GT 9m is really nice. It has so much bottom end for a 9m. It finally fell out the sky the other day when I accidentally became unhooked in 7-9 knots. At 82kg in 11-14 knots I use a 140x43cm board no problems. On a M8 SS 131x39 I'm comfortable unhooking up to 18-20 knots and am comfortable hooked in riding and having a blast up to 25knots. Have been out in 31knots with no problems, but the 9m has got so much power and can be hard to get a good edge for jumping above 25knots.
Love this kite in the 13 - 25 range...pure joy.
There is no such thing as 2010 GT.
This kite belongs to 2009 and push your way for discount as it is the last year's kite.
I have a 9m and I'm 85kg;
+side: the kite is great for beginner and intermediate level, lovely upwind ability, simple water relaunch, simple self launch, simple self land, great safety release.
-side: depowering the kite will make it out of control, bar pressure is high as fk.
Note: If you bought one, cut that small loop on the bar before you do anything else.
PS. I know Darren disagree with me and he think it's the best kite in the world and there is nothing negative about it at all.
Overall suggestion: Go and buy a 9m now but don't forget a good discount.
I just bought a couple of Core GTs and was flying a 9m all weekend. I have nothing bad to say about this kite it was great. It has a very strong build and can take a beating in the waves, it's nice and quick when you have to flick it around, has effortless relaunch ability to get you up and away quickly before next set and boosts like a mad man.
I reckon for your weight the 9m would be a good all rounder.
Hey Guys,
The GT is a two year duty cycle kite and to my knowledge, Core are the first to operate with this philosophy. There is no planned extinction date of the previous model, they stay in production until they feel the next new design is ready to be released and has passed thorough testing.
The idea of pumping out kites every year regardless of ready or not is absurd and the sooner other kite manufacturers accept this practice, the better off we the riders will be. Think about it, they release 4 models each year with 8-10 sizes per model. Are they all tested and honed to perfection? or are they scampering to try and keep up and release stuff as it's date arrives, not necessarily when it is ready ![]()
The manufacturers will have proper time to test their prototypes and make sure each size is perfect, make sure no inherent failures occur within the first few hours of flying and can make sure things last properly. Lets face it, just about every manufacturer has brought out lemons in the past which could have been avoided if they had had a few more months to develop and test the little things. We'd all end up with better products.
Ozone are also following this philosophy with some of their new kites. This is smart!
If bar pressure is a problem, look at the new Core Riot XR.
Of course we have demo's available every day.
Cheers,
KH
i"ve bought GTs a 10 and 7,so i cant speak for the 9 but i can say now that i have the rear lines set up to suit the way i ride i find these two kites awesome..bar pressure is perfect and turning is brilliant, even in fickle wind i can put the kite where ever i want without any effort,i came from HIFIs and i thought they turned quick but GTs are rockets and so stable everthing seems easy.I even had a go on my mates SWITCHBLADES and I was impressed but now i reckon he can keep em !!!
If you want a kite with good manners and big balls get yourself a GT you wont be dissapointed ...
not to forget the bar is bloody good too, even full of sand it all functions really well no hitches...same setup as a flysurfer who can argue with german tech its just good...
I have been flying the Core GT 9m for a few weeks now. About myself: 70kg, intermediate rider, 2009 underground flx 128 board, usually 15 - 25 knots on the Gold Coast. Not associated with any company.
I have been riding Cabrinhas for 4 years (12m switchblade 06, 12m and 15m Omega HD, 2009 10m Switchblade, 2010 12m Switchblade) - ever since I have started kiting.
All I can say is that the Core GT beats the Cabrinhas is almost all aspects.
This 9m is the most powerful kite I have owned, even though it is the smallest. It has a huge windrange, turns extremely fast and the bar set up is way better than the Cabrinhas: The self unswivelling system is awesome and so easy to use, the power/depower straps are very comfortable - unlike Cabrinha which are impossible to grab, one bar fits all kite sizes, the safety system is excellent and simple.
I actually like the little loop on the bar which goes into a hook to keep the kite fully powered without using your arms, as well. It makes cruising in light winds so comfortable, and it can also be used during jumps to perform "dead man" moves easily.
The kite is very stable, well built, very powerful with huge hangtime, loops very well, great depower, overall excellent flying characteristics! Excellent quality construction!
The downside compared to Cabrinhas: Inflation system in the Cabrinhas is better, but doesn't matter, as Core's still works perfectly fine and has single inflation point, which is really all that matters; ids system on Cabrinhas is quite useful for self landing on strong days; 2010 Cabrinhas look stronger built than Core, but that makes the Cabrinhas also much heavier in the air; Cabrinhas relaunch better, although the GT relaunches fine!
Would recommend it for intermediate and advanced riders, while Cabrinhas are probably better for beginner to intermediate, especially the 2010 Switchblade.
I bought a 9mtr off Darren at AKS. Love the kite. I'm 82 kgs and ride a 135 Xride. Darren will help you out with any tuning issues on kites you buy off him. I haven't needed any help with this kite, it fly's great straight out of the bag. If you like boosting you might want to give the core a serious look over. Very well behaved and floaty. The bar is one of the best Ive used. After a rotation just pull it in to the chicken loop and instantly unwinds the lines. Neat addition.
