Hi all. I currently have a 12m and 9m north rebel 09. I would like to buy a high wind kite but not sure what size to go for. Any thoughts?

i have exactly the same setup, 9+12 rebels in melbourne. 70kgs

the 9m is a great kite with heaps of top end. i would save your money, kites are expensive (expecially with the dollar) and there will only be a half dozen sessions over 30 knots per season.

or downsize your 9m to a 8m, or buy a new 6m if your loaded!

happy kiting

Have either of you had any problems with the Rebel 9m collapsing? (I have read an earlier post and other forums that the smaller Rebels had problems)

I tested a 09 Rebel 12m the other day and loved it, would be interested in a 9 and 12m but am not sure after the previous posts I have read on the smaller sizes.

Hi Flying High

No problems with either of the rebels collapsing. I have had my 9m up to 30-35knot (and was lit up like a xmas tree). It handled the gusts fine and was super stable. I have it pumped up to 7psi and have the valves shut always. My mate has the 7m and ridden it in 25-35 knots with no problems as well.

I read on a forum somewhere that they have only had problems and collapsed with heavier blokes (100kgs) - only north know I guess. I weigh about 70kgs.

Good luck

Thanks McSalty
I weigh 82 Kg, so somewhere in between. I definitely enjoyed the 12m maybe I should try and demo a 9m before I decide.

I rode the 6m and 9m in nuking gusts with perfect stability.
Pump them hard.
Every kite must be pumped hard for super loaded/gusty winds.
I have seen in my beach ALL BRANDS THAT RIDE IN HEAVY CONDITIONS INVERT/COLLAPSE!
The only way to avoid is:
- Pump hard
- Foresee the gust and ease a little the back lines
- Before the gust hits, don´t let the kite get too forward nor too back in the window.
If you:
- depower fully->kite will colapse;
- do not depower->either you, lines or kite blows

got a 09 7m see my review this forum
82kg
me thinking that a 6m would be the go for nuking condition

09 7 seems to have a bit more grunt than 08
i've kept my 08 6m

i usually pump my 9m to 8 psi instead of the recomended 6psi. have had no problems with stabilility aswell. if anything it feels far more stable than the rebel 08

never depower fully aswell, the kite looses stability. i only depower max about two inchs of the depower strap

I have the Rebel 09 12m and 9m also,

Just had the 9m out in an average 35mph winds gusting to 40mph easily (freezing UK conditions), Big tide with wind, I weigh 85Kg before suited and booted, I depowered the kite fully including adjusting the rear lines at the bar, I probably depowered more than I needed, I was just so impressed it really does iron out the gusts, others on 7m's said it was really gusty, I honestly did not feel the gusts at all.

That saying, I am sure I would have prefered to be a 7m, in it's sweet spot. Was thinking of adding a 7m Evo (on offer at the moment at a really good price), but enjoying the rebel so much would prefere the rebel over the Evo, but nearly double the price.??? not sure I can justify the extra cash for something I might not use more that 4-5 times a year.

No sign of Collapsing, pumped it up to 7-8psi.

Hi guys,

I've spent a bit of time on the 7m 09 Rebel and can tell you it is a grunty, fast little kite. Very stable and big boosting. Drifts well in the surf but can be prone to backstall if not setup right. I had to change the back lines to the longer setting and that made it perfect.

It fly's extremely well, quite predictable and did everything I expected (and I expect a lot from a good kite).

Don't know about a lighter rider riding it in + 30knots though. It has seriously good bottom end. I'd think that light riders ie <60 kilos would be better suited with the 6m in 30knots +. If you want to be really comfy.

Just my thoughts.

Good winds,

How did you do this?
Do you change the connection of the rear lines at the kite, back attachment or front attachment point?
Also the relaunch bungees are they supposed to be tight, they seem a bit loose on my kite.

Yeah as kitehard said, they are quite grunty kites. I've been spending a lot of time on the 8m, and I reckon at your weight, you should definately go the 6m as your high wind kite. They boost big and the hangtime is awesome, very fun kites to fly!!

anyone got comments on 9m 09?

whilst not been out a lot i'm a bit suss on its low end

given the nature of the 09 7m thought the 9m would be good at 20kn (fully juiced) but not so

why are they all set up over sheeted?

Funny that cos I had 07 Rebels and Rhinos and they were both set up undersheeted, I thought they would have been better tuned after numerous years of production..
