My Comments:
After spending a few months testing the 13m prototype the production models don't disappoint in any way, shape or form. This is a C kite designed for competition riding.
The bar is brand new for 2009; the Switchcraft II now has 3 different safety options for different kite styles. The 5th line option for the Prima Donna3 range works best. With the stopper ball in the right position when you let the bar go the kite roles onto its back then with the help of the specially designed wing tips, the kite makes its way to the edge of the window and waits for you to regain the bar to re-launch the kite.
Setting up the kite is simple, JN have got rid of the two different wind settings and now just have the one setting, and this is possible due to the kites having more de-power and higher top end with better low end added in for good measure. We tested the prototype in a 4 line mode, however we found that with the 5th line the kites generated better low end grunt and turned quicker.
Flying the kite was smooth with plenty of pop, the ideal wake style kite. Unhooking came easy (the bar comes with two chicken loops, two different sizes). When unhooked the kite stayed powered up without needing to adjust the trim. Boosts were massive!!! Big, floaty jumps. Even in the gusty conditions the PD3 was very stable and with the added de-power chatting on the beach was made easy.
My overall impression is - If you are looking for a grunty wake style kite, you don't need to look much further.
