Hi guys,
Im heading down South the next couple of weeks. Does anyone know some kiting spots in the South coast of WA? I'm a bit hesitant given that it's the end of the season (at least in Perth).
I've read for Esperance that the following spots are good:
- Cyclops
- Wylie Bay
- Bikramstu
If anyone is around any of the cities and is keen on giving it a go, let me know!
Cheers
Hi im new to kite surfing and am keen to get out if you dont mind a tag along?
Wilianint, I dont mind at all, I will send you a PM
I don't want to be a buzz kill but you'd have to be fairly lucky to get some good kiting conditions down there at this time of year.
As you can see on the forecast you will most likely get fronts which can get pretty gnarly/dangerous for newbies.
Easterlies are the most reliable winds down there, and you will get those mostly in the summer when it gets really hot and there is no wind in Perth.
If you have winds between NE and E you can't go past the flat water spot in Albany off Frenchman bay road, super easy access and a great beginner spot.
Many other spots would be waves in this area and not so beginner friendly.
Hopefully you don't have very high expectations for winds...from experience traveling down there at this time of year you will either get weak winds or strong storm fronts...
Have a look at the weather stats for April last year.
Albany: http://210.8.186.60/climate/dwo/201504/html/IDCJDW6002.201504.shtml
Esperance: 210.8.186.60/climate/dwo/201504/html/IDCJDW6040.201504.shtml
As you can see from the stats, very little easterly winds and when the winds do get strong, you have rain which means a front...
if you wanted to do a kite dedicated road trip now, it'd be a much better idea to head to Shark Bay and Exmouth where you will enjoy some nice winds and warm temps!

Hi Christian,
Thanks for your post. I was not expecting good winds at all, but a friend told me that Esperance is quite windy, so I considered picking your brains a bit again
Just as you told me the wind seems to build up quite a lot for next week - maybe along with some rain -. I could handle spots with some chop, but don't know how wavy it can get down here. I've read that anything with an N component is a no-go, except I guess in the Albany frenchman road.
you'll get about 1 day a week of good kiting conditions, and it seems this week that day would be Saturday in Albany, in the inlet. If the forecast materializes you'll have the whole local kiting crew there, which is about 8 of them :)

Ill keep my fingers crossed and pack my 3 kites. Thanks like always Christian :)
