sorry to hear you lost your board, I'm assuming it was you with the orange/black kite who came back in a long self-rescue late afternoon just before sunset.
Since the wind was due south and you were about 1km from the shore when you lost it, it has most likely drifted off-shore (the wind went off-shore shortly after sunset).
When you kite so late in the day, regardless of your skill level, my advice is to stay much closer to the shore, this will avoid raising the alarm should you get in trouble. It would also be easier to rescue yourself and much easier for anyone else around to help you or to help retrieve your board should you get in trouble.
I'm glad you decided to do a self-rescue, however you could've came back to the shore twice as fast simply by moving back into your kite to create a much larger sail. You were at the center of your kite which is why it took so long to sail in.
