2011 model Rebel North Kite and bar last seen heading towards Freo Heads before it became dark. Even though the wind was slightly onshore, it decided to tack off shore and kept going.

Big thank you to the local kayakers who went to rescue a potential kiter and the water police who went looking for it at dusk.

Reward if found. Call Frank on 0426 144 728

Yeah decided to go out on my ski when I saw it drifting past from my house. Rang Water police [who told me afterwards that you got in on a paddle board] Actually thought it might have a body attached. No body thankfully when I got there [on sunset] but it had to be at least 3ks out.

Mate it was >3ks out! I underestimated how far it was or I would have left it, body or no body. It was pitch black coming in on the beach and it made for some adrenaline rush in the surf zone. Anyway its all wrapped up and residing with water police North Fremantle. No reward necessary. Sorry about pulling off the strut rubbers to deflate but couldn't find a dump valve anywhere. I looked around the tips too because in have been told that those clever little bastards at North put them there but could not see anything.

What were you doing so far out anyway ?
Is the water out there any different to that inshore?
I bet you feel like a dumb prick now!

First rule of kitesurfing -- never go out further than you want to swim back or one day you will regret it

Cheers Niall, what a wonderful State WA is !!! Big thank you. Here is the story........

Visiting from Melbourne and looked at the beach for ages before deciding to take advantage of a front coming in. The wind was slightly onshore. Not used to the dumpers so took my time picking the right time to go. Happy surfing for 30 mins as I became used to the conditions. Decided to head in for a break, gently scooting up on the beach, kite above me, to the right, stepped off the board only to find my left leg sinking into a gap, hearing the next dumper about to tap me on the back, I decided to release the kite both safeties and body surf the dumper wave.

Happy to have not fractured my leg, I retrieved the board (loaned) and walked up the beach to get my kite.

Fack..... the kite was tacking (in a similar fashion to beach launching) off shore. The bar and ropes were acting as an anchor/drag. Decided not to swim as the hidden rocks had scared the willies out of me.

So gradually watched my kite make it's way down the beach and out to sea.

As the wind rose due to the front, out it tacked faster and faster. Two skiers separately tried to retrieve it, but it was too windy I was hoping it would flip and take a different tack, alas no.

Chap on the beach said he had called the coast guard, So I called them
ME "Hello, I am calling about the kite surfer reported out to sea"
CG " Ah, yes we have had a report of a distressed kite surfer, the team has been mobilised and are driving in"
ME " Mmmm Well I am distressed, as I have lost my kite, but I am on the beach"
CG " Great, thank you for calling, we will call off the search now"
Me " Any chance of retrieving my kite? "
CG " Mmmm I will ask, I will call back if yes....."

20 mins later, they were out there looking, so I went out to the beach to guide them to it. Alas, I could no longer see the kite, they searched until dark.

Thus, you must have got the kite whilst this search was on.

Once again thank I thank Thee.

Kite surfing rule number 1 revised: Only kite surf with on shore wind by at least 15 degrees on shore

Regards

Frank

Or you could have been sensible and released the main safety and self managed the situation and not involved coast guards or fully released your kite..

You sound like a noob with little experience or common sense.

Rule #1, know the conditions.
Rule #2, sun goes down, wind drops out and turns offshore.
Rule #3, don't be a retard and release both safetys unless getting skull dragged down the beach and you are gonna die.

Stay in Melb mate next time as we don't need our beaches banned by old idiots actions like yours.

Not sure it was a seabreeze at this time of year.... Maybe you should do your homework mate and learn how a front system works.

What's the point of being so aggressive with him?
