For those who were wondering, Some insurance companies will cover all your kite boarding gear whilst away from your home, for Theft, Damage or Loss etc, i.e AAMI covers my gear up to $3000 worth whilst im out kiting, so if i loose my board, break my kite or its knocked off from the beach etc, I only pay a $100 excess. You can nominate the amount and gear on the policy, its covered under their "Personal Effects Policy - Sporting Equipment" The premium cost me $15 for the year (they have a 50% discount thingo goin on at the mo. normally would have been $30 p.a) Not bad peace of mind, it has been tried and tested at my end, hence a shinny new Nobile 555.
.
AND NO! i dont work for any insurance company!!
.
Just for your info.

Seems like a riculous deal, 15/30 bucks for up to $3000 cover on stuff that gets smashed/lost/stolen all the time, have these guys done any research. I'm getting a policy i think, before they go up, and they will you have already pulled a new board out of them, the first of many i would imagine (not you personally but everyone with a $30 policy who wants a new board... just lose the bastard.

davem207 can you offer any more info on this? Perhaps a link to the specific spot on the AAMI site that has this policy?

I just spoke to AAMI and the closest thing they have to what you describe is additional home and contents, which only covers up to $1000, and specifically states sporting gear does not get covered while in use.

yeah mate ill dig up the policy and its exact wording tomoz when i get home, i have contents insurance through them as a seperate issue, the $1000 coverage is the base coverage which i believe is $10 PA i elected to have an extra $2000 coverage which gives me the base coverage $1k + the additional coverage of $2K which gave me $3K all up, just assuming a new kite is close to $2K and a new board $1K, i guess if their policy wording is if "in use" the gear isnt covered, i guess when making a claim we must be careful of our own wording!! lol. my claim arose from my board becoming a temporary speed hump (ie i was stupid enough to leave it next to my car tyre for a minute longer then my brain was working). ill post the info tomoz some time which may assist in any inquiries etc. i dont know about it on their website as i did it over the phone.

cheers

I also have the same "extra" insurance on my policy - however seem to remember that it doesnt cover the gear whilst it is in use. Hence losing a board would not cut it - unless it got "stolen" - through which you would need to make a police statement I assume.

Hey Omega,

mate yeah the policy is called "Personal Valuable Extra Cover", you get a standrad $1000 for non specified items & you can elect and specify other items (eg kite boarding kit etc) to any value you want, it just cost a bit extra on the premium, thats all. no doubt would pay for itself in a year or two of kiting!!

And tell me if you lose your board in the surf you are not going to just say it was stolen!
