Fiordland (SW corner of the South Island) is the least accessible part of NZ I reckon. All cliffs and only accessible by boat. I wouldn't want to be sailing through that area! Might get some good waves round the corner near Invercargill though.

... hey Denis, its been f'ing awesome, even got to use small kite with small board a few times ,,,, I'm on a 16 day streak (touch wood). ![]()
A low pressure system hung around us, nearly turned into a cyclone and threw out a good swell so got nice and rough, faced some of the biggest I've seen in years here (big for Darwin anyway). Been pouring, raining cats and dogs, made Rapid Creek particularly brown with the massive outflow, coffee coloured waves made for some nice rides ![]()
Cheers,

I saw a few photos of cable beach from a few weeks ago, it was over head high and looked like kirra in the 80's
... I've got no idea how big the waves were, never been good at knowing which measurment is correct, but they were saying on BOM that we had 4m seas so I reckon some of them got through at around that, and occasionally when facing the massive ramp infront of me, the top of the wave with white water licking the sky,,,,, the old sphincter tightened up!!!!!! Waters around Darwin are shallow for miles so waves can break way out to sea and with deeper water can get much bigger than the shore waves, only us kiters get to use them.
On a sad note, 14 year old girl drowned, got smashed by waves (I reckon she hit the bottom) very near where I was kiting too, damn, only half hour before right where I just was. I saw a bunch of teenagers swimming in the white water and with the huge currents around was very rough indeed. Very Sad! ![]()
