Could anybody tell me why there aren't any 2 to 1 pulley bars out there anymore like the cabrinha powerstroke or the slingshot one? I never used one and am just wondering why people stopped buying them (or manufacturer stopped making them...) ?
The early bows needed them as their depower was so long. Kites can now depower with a much shorter stroke. The worst thing about the pulleys on the back lines is the steering becomes remote and bar pressure is doubled.
... cause 2 to 1 was s h i t ! I personally didn't like it at all!! Glad to see it go ... but you gotta do what you gotta do and every one has learnt from then, now kites are getting good!
agreed.. I still remember the 1st time I flew my trusty omega after converting it from 2 to 1:1... It was like a new and improved kite even for an omega!!
A good example of new technology/ideas making it better for all...
-Why did the old bows have a long depower throw?
-Why do pulleys on the back lines double bar pressure?
-Why is the banana curved?
- Because the geometry of the bridles were less refined & needed more line travel to get the required adjustment of kite attitude.
- Because with the pulleys you are effectively pulling the rear lines in at double the rate.
- Because bananas grow directly outwards from the stem but the effect of gravity causes them to droop. You can observe a similar effect with other things that project outwards.
Cabrinha say they have a 1.5:1 system on the 2011 Crossbow race, but its at the kite.
Some riders use pulley bars in the waves. (You can see that he switched it to 1:1 for strapless riding, but seems to have gone back to the pulleys for riding).
They worked out that pulleys are just cr@p.
Having pulleys on the kite and bar made the kite experience double cr@p. But it was something to talk about.
People still like to talk about kites with redesigned bridles with pulleys, so they need to make cr@p quick or they can't sell to beginners.
