I'd like to know what kind of watch that is (a cheap version of it) with a gps location emergency beacon thing like that chap that had a boat capsize in qld .
..that would be a bit easier &more simple to carry around compared to a marine radio which sometimes I hang off my harness.

Firstly condolences to the family of Graham. It's winter in SA atm.
Sad times the guy was a driving force behind Kiteboarding in SA.
Graham would of ridden that down winder too many times to count over the last 15yrs
He was doing a solo ride.
Kite and bar were found. Graham was later found dead.
Either he released his kite and has decided on the swim. It's a bloody long swim against currents.
As I can't see the safety releasing on its own.
So either hypothermia? Confusion set in and decided to swim.
Unconcious from a crash? Still doesn't explain safety release.
Even if he could of launched in pitch dark a potential line tangle around the body could of occurred. Therefore releasing the safety.
But unfortunately the only person who knows what happened is dead.
Always try to kite with a buddy. And give specific details of your route if you are doing a down winder in offshore conditions.
Nick Jacobsen has the bar and kite.
An autopsy is going to be performed.
Very sad news. Condolences to the family and friends.
I also asked myself how this could be possible, then started watching some of his videos about mental health, depression and anxiety. I quickly realized the most likely reason when watching the first 90 seconds of this video:
