I want to start being a bit more diligent with my gear. I've started doing some moves that would have a sad ending if a line broke or something. My gear isn't new, and I don't pay any attention to my kite setting up or packing up.
I've found a bunch of threads about rinsing kites, bars etc. but I'm after a more comprehensive list of what I should look for when I dedicate some time to maintenance. Does anyone have a checklist of what they look for, clean or replace as part of a pre-winter/pre-summer type job?
I ride 2011 Ozone C4's.
check all your stitching & carefully look for any little tears in canopy. "a stitch in time saves 9" is never so true as in kiting, preventing bladder explosions as well as full canopy tears. I wouldn't be bothered rinsing but make sure it's packed away dry. I think the ozone bars are pretty bulletproof & they don't have pulley issues.
cheers

I was going to ask about the spray i remember seeing an ad for ages ago and found this link, none of the links work but its basically a spray for your kite that reduces wear....
I cant be bothered reading the thread but here it is:

No particular check list but I have found the following rather interesting over the past few years:
1. Looked under the bar end floats only to find the rear line attached to the bar worn half away where it passes through the bar end eye (Fone B3)!
2. Found a knot from last pack up when walking out the lines one day right up near the top larks head - wasnt tight but would have been 2 hours later if I hadnt found it then!
3. On occasions found small tears in the canopy when checking the kite when drying - pumped up and standing behind it with the sun in front - often caused by self launching - but needs to be patched pronto!
4. Stitching on the kite coming apart (WTF?) - often an easy self fix if caught soon enough - again usually found when drying or when bored on a windless day!!
5. I check the power rope for excessive signs of wear and it attachement to the other bits every time I go out!
6. I check the function of the quick release for excessive sand etc when i think of it - usually when Im about to go out and my ass is puckering!
7. Check any pulleys to see that they still turn!
8 Check bridles for excessive wear where the pulleys run - dont know if this applies to the C4's but many kites have bridles / pulleys!
Thats about it for my list - I bet I've missed a heap of really important things like cold beer for the aftersession debrief etc....
cheers boys. I pretty eager to get out when I'm setting and too cold to give a crap when packing up, I'd miss anything.
Seabreezeb that thread made me lol. Found the stuff here: http://www.kgbswag.com/shop/kitelife-protectant/
