Hi,
I will be traveling the eastcoast from Syndney to Fraser Island in April this year.
hopefuly I will spend lots of hours on the water
kiting.
coming from Europe where the wather is always cold, I would like to know what neopreen to bring.
is a 2 mmshorty sufficient, or would a 3 mm full neopreen do bether?
what is the average wather temperature in April, and is there the risk of jelly fish?
any other tips are very welcome!
thanks,
Marcus
AUS mode ON: Save all your kitesurfing for Frazer Island! Lots of wind, endless beaches... Its a great place to practise your body dragging. For best results, pack the shorty with raw fish, lots of it. Perhaps do a bit of chumming beforehand, too.![]()

EURO mode ON: Bondi beach is a GREAT kite beach.
FRIENDLY KITER mode ON: don't kite on busy beaches in any of the big cities along the way. Don't kite anywhere near Frazer island, lots of sharks. Lots. Full body wetsuit, 2 or 3mm and booties just in case (jellyfish danger as you head north. If the sharks and the jellyfish don't kill you, then watch out for Aussie kiters too, they don't like foreigners... ![]()
Jellyfish are great for throwing at your mates. Not dangerous though.
Westsuit- Don't wear a mankini. Borat is not cool once you ditch the moustache.
A shortie wetsuit would be fine.
Sharks? You can order some at the fish and chip shop, they call it Flake, and there is risk of dieing from it. That hairy monkey serving you hasn't washed in years. But that's the risk we take in chasing down some chicken salt on potatoes.
Im always surprised how with all these dangerous things in Australia how we are not all dead yet?
Enjoy your trip. Hopefully you will get the last few weeks of the season.
Hi all,
I'm about to do the same trip like marcusroos mid-March. As I won't be able to bring my kite gear, I wonder if anyone could recommend a nice kite station or shop to rent some?
Thanks,
Olly
> A Gay Bar.
Pretty close ![]()
But the last Kite Station I came by, was a hut close to the beach where you could rent gear, meet fellow kiter and get advice on the spot.
How do you call it?
Yeah the guys at the Gay bar at the local are all great guys, friendly advice, new gear and pumping after parties
Well, thanks guys. At least I know now what to expect, when visiting a gay bar ![]()
From your responses I get, that there are no Gay Bars to rent gear from. What about kite schools, or shops? Would it be possible to rent gear there?
And thanks djdojo. When does the seasons end? Could I hope for wind end of march?
cheers
Don't know of any shops renting gear. None in Sydney. Generally not the done thing around here. April is not a good month for wind on the east coast either.
for renting check the kiteshop near Lennox Head, they rent material. hope there will be any wind in April, I'll take my 12m with me.
hope to see ya on the wather ![]()
