We have just tested a new 2M Trainer from Ocean Rodeo.
Comes with a belt harness, 4 line depower bar & is a mini version LEI kite.
Awesome little machine - just needs some trim adjustment & it would be a full scaled down serious kite.
RRP $369

Can't say enough good things about these small 3 line trainers, but have no idea if its in your budget

Another less costly option is to get one of these and just make your own bar from a piece of 22mm dowel... Cost is $95 for a 2 line 1.6M, it will have plenty of oomph.

Thanks I'm looking in to it .puppetonastring are you saying that the 2m can be used as a working kite on the water or just as a trainer.

Just a trainer but depending on weight will probably be ok for early stages of body dragging when wind is good.

A local has had his 11 year old on the north buzz, which has been used as a trainer and now he's riding it on the water, he's only of light build and we get strong winds here, he's now on a 6 Evo as his riding progressed, I can pass his detail on as I'd think he won't use the buzz again, also ozone have the reo and cat 4mtr that would suit

Love these kites, I got one for myself as a trainer and now my boys (9yr and 7yr) and both using it. Had them both flying it in approx 10-12knts and they love it. They have learnt to hold the bar lightly so that if they do get a massive power hit from the kite it just slips out of their hands and floats down depowered. They also had a go at laying on their esky lids and dragging around the flat water on it. Not a huge amount of success but that was due to still getting use the co-ordination, tonne of fun though.

That being said, the 3 line trainer does not have a harness and depower in the bar so it depends on what type of trainer you are looking for. The ozone is great as a first kite and to help teach about the wind window and basics of flying a kite, also gets them use to keeping a light touch on the bar and getting use to the feeling of the power from the kite.

No reason it couldnt. As long as the riders weight matched the wind strength.
The depower bar works perfectly but there is no trim.
I am going to play around with alternative knots to try to cover for the lack of trim.
When I reckon its sorted and I have some idea of wind range for weight I'll put up a review.
Like most trainers it would be great with a skate or skim board - with the added advantage of depower.
