excuse the lower case typing, but i'd like to send out a big thanks to everyone who helped me when i got face-planted during a foolish attempt to self-launch at woodys about 2.30pm yesterday. that includes thomas the german, a sth african lass and the smoking man who packed up my kit and called the ambos. you are all fine human beings. x-rays at fiona stanley showed i chipped the bone where it goes into the socket and fractured it just below the ball that goes into the socket. i am on painkillers and in a sling, and seeing the surgeon this morning after being released last night. it was totally my fault. i was impatient and cocky and didn't wait for someone to launch me, after 5 years kiting i should have known better, even if i have launched myself 100s of times before. the leash was caught on the bar just as the kite powered up - whoosh!! my shoulder took the impact when i put my arms up to protect my head when i knew i was going to topple. no kiting for me until march - but i'm cool with that. i could be dead.
anyway, after all that, hope you all have great seasons. i'm catching up with my reading, learning photoshop, and taking the art of one-handed typing to new heights
.
sheepishly,
jon.
Oh god!! Bloody woodies!! Must be something in the air. I got choppered off beach 3 on Wednesday due to a kitemare. Broke my heel bone and the tissue around my ankle exploded like a bomb, haha!!
I just left Fiona Stanley yesterday, am in freo hospital waiting for surgery, just missed you. All the best for your recovery, it sux having a kitemare esp this time of the year, but extremely happy to be alive and learn from the mistakes.
I'm on a movie bonanza at the mo. Speedy recovery and get back out there as soon as!! All the best!! Rock on!!![]()
Ah, mend soon man.
Don't be too hard on yourself. After 10 years kiting I nearly went headfirst into some rocks before a car park last weekend at Point Henry. launched my 12, got hit by a gust and by the time I pulled the quick release I had slid 20 odd meters, collected another kite's lines around my ankles and was heading for disaster. All due to being too impatient to wait 10 minutes. All too easy!
Its lucky that no one has died while kiting this week
Seabreeze is full of accidents
Stoked it wasn't worse
