I have a small tear in my nearly new shorty right on the spot where the neoprene changes into the soft belly part. About 5mm I'd say. Is this repairable? Seems to be at a pressure point so maybe it is likely to get bigger?

Hi Steven,

I think this is a sign to start getting yourself into shape

I would take a needle and thread to it, should do the trick.

Sounds like a warranty job, otherwise a product called Neo Rez (real surf shops have it) will hold it for a while.

Any neoprene glue will close it up and then you could even put a few stitches on the inside to be doubly sure.

make sure you use the right thread though, normal sewing thread deteriorates in water. I ripped my near new steamer about 15cm along the groin seam skiddig up the beach after a crash and took it to a lady in Greenwood who stitched it up and did a great job for only 15 bucks or something like that. been holding up well ever since then.

Use this www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-100ml-kwik-grip-horizontal-contact-adhesive_p1233557 $7.20

It does have turn yellow after it cures due to the UV but it will hold. Put a little on both sides of the tear, let it turn tacky then stick the two surfaces back to together and apply pressure until fully set.

Dental floss is great for sewing wetsuits due it being strong and wax coated. So when the glue has cured, sew some dental floss over the tear and then put a little glue over the stitches to ensure they dont go anywhere and it will give them a little wear protection.

This has always worked for me.
Hope this helps

Todays instructional video is all about how to repair a wetsuit using black witch adhesive

i followed this, I had the same thing we're the rubber meets the fabric. i didn't have much success, but give it a go, and if it fails take it to a pro
