slingshot bar pain in the ass under bar depower

hi i ride rpms there a great kite and a great bar apart from the under bar depower that always sticks normally so much that i have to stop to depower .
is there away of converting it to above bar or some little trick i can use to make this easier ?
iv not spoken to a slingshot owner who likes this under bar system i cant work out why they havent changed it to above bar like all the other brands

I like under the bar for freestyle, saves my tomohawking kites. Lit and I like above the bar.

So I guess I'm one slingshot owner who likes them. Do prefer the LF under the bar though but hate the flagout line twist.

What you do is ride full powered and then sheet the bar out quickly while pulling on the depower.

Works everytime that isnt 30 knots, then Id suggest a smaller kite.

You just have to take a little power out of the kite... the above trick or just bear off and rise downwind a bit. Or thrust your hips forward and pull the depower then.

IMHO you'd have to choose above to below, and clam cleat to straps if you want to get anal, had a naish pivot recently to trial , all singing and dancing bar , but with a below bar with crocodiles teeth to grip and wear the rope to death

I like the below the bar.

If really overpowered and finding it hard to pull the depowert there are a few options

ride slightly downwind and pull it on
send kite ride over to edge of window and pull it on
BEST IF REALLY DIFFICULT - reach up and grab swivel and pull it down, it takes pressure off the system - pull on depower.

Wash ur bar after every use in fresh water, and also you can buy a silicon wax spray from a sail shop for the lines it works.... and all the above also work..
one thing is to trim ur kite and leave it and just kite ...... balls to the wall .......

You can attach your leach to the depower...

Then you can just unhook and let bar go to depower.

Eg, if you miss a handle pass it will depower your kite.

Sounds like you need a smaller kite, RPM's fly best full power...

Some good answers there, I like the under bar system, never a problem, don't fly way over powered, bear of wind a bit and or push the bar out. But above all wash the bar and lines in fresh water using a hose when you can. Stops them sticking.

Always leave about 1cm of rope free of the cleat when on full power. Don't let the rope go all the way in to the plastic handle. Once I learned this, never really had any dramas since. When lit, bearing off and sheeting out is the go.

All jokes aside I would like some clarification on trim? Played around with it and never feel any difference, plus with my ozone bar I can never get it to lock on anyway.

SS good kites....Crap below the bar trim strap. It needs another pulley like the above the bar system. Takes twice as much force to pull on. Its all well and good to say "ride down wind or edge harder" but sometimes none of these are an option. Would be great if SS gave a two bar option.

The basic answer is that it adjusts where the "bite/clutch" point is on your centreline.
When flying the right kite in its designed wind range the bite point on your centerline should be when the bar is in the middle of the length of the centreline between the QR and the trim or splitter depending on the bars brand.
By "Bite" i'm referring to the point of travel of the bar on the centerline when the backlines/steering lines become tight but do not move the trailing wingtip toward the rider.
The reason you want this bite point to occur halfway tru the travel of the bar on the centreline is of course that it allows you the maximum and equal amounts of ability to change the angle of attack of the kite to provide more or less angle of attack in the kite as required ( In simple terms more or less power).
When increasing the trim the kite will fly with the trailing edge flatter in relation to the leading edge and thus move the bite point closer to the rider and of course vise the versa.
There are other reasons to trim your kite , like trimming to allow the kite to fly more forward in the window and gain a better angle upwind .. or trimming it so that it loops deeper and gives you more wang for a megaloop.
But thats something that comes with time and knowing your gear.
Ok i know all this sounds abit tech , to make it simples .. On a cleat system (North ect) if you pull the trim line toward you the bar will become closer when at the bite point , on a strap system(Pre 2015 Best ect ) (usually "red" and "black" straps) the red will bring the bar toward you at the bite point.
Whenever the bar comes toward you in simple terms people say you have "Depowered" the kite.
Much easier to show than explain in text.

Oh btw im not a fan of under the bar depower either.
I have Fuels its all well and good to say that you can veer of downwind to pull the trim but if your seriously overpowered the last ting you want to do is let go of your edge on a fuel

pulling on the trim adjusts the length of your back lines (makes shorter)
when unhooking have to get the trim right first
I basically leave mine trimmed all the time since I k now that is right but let it out occassionally in light winds

adjusting the trim in shortens your front lines ,. effectively lengthening your back lines and taking pressure off the leech

cheers for the help will give the bars a good wash see if that helps if not will try the wax the riding down wind or tugging on the swivel dosnt seem like a fix but if thats the only way .
i dont actually use the depower often its normaly just when its getting to the point when i have to call it a day soon and its not worth pumping up a smaller kite or when im out like the other day gusting 20-32 knots .
so after using other kites ware depower is effortless and when your paying big $$$ i sort of feel that things should just work as well as they could do. any way not trying to bag ss i still rate the rpm .
on the other hand i might just not be used to it so i will also try just cruising and just playing around with it .

I use a 2010 SS bar and use one bar for all my kites. One thing Ill say is that the bar is still in near new condition. Other bars that Ive used have frayed at the larks head sleeve, lines have shortened or stretched and safety lines have snapped. Never mind snapping bars and plastic QR's dont work under tension or fill with sand quickly to make them dangerous.

If its gusty and I think I might depower a bit during the session, I always release the depowper cord and reset it before I launch. With the water and salt they do get sticky when they dry inside the cleat. If overpowered sometimes its better just to edge hard and sheet out to stop, let the kite sit in the wind window on the water and set it then ride away. It's not perfect but its one of the safest bars on the market in my opinion.

Kites arent dangerous, badly designed bars are.

it is about what you get used to. I love the depower under the bar , you dont have to lean forward to adjust when you need it to happen , just take pressure of your lines.
the double rope and depower line, through the compstik control bar does wear if you do not keep it clean , but very solid bar.
also heavy lines to not stretch or snap.

I like it trimmed where I have the kite fully powered about two inches from my chicken loop.

If I'm unhooking I'll trim further so the kite doesn't back stall when the bar is fully sheeted in.
