I've just got myself a switchblade 2 10m and was wondering the best way to self rescue. the flagging ring is on the steering line which makes me wonder if it is safe to make my way along this line to the kite and then grab both wing tips. could the kite take off while i'm half way along making my way to the kite and start looping?
I don't fly swicthblades but do know that grabbing both wing tips will just drag you straight down wind. It's better to Sit between the first and second strut and hold the V in the bridle, where the front line connects to the bridle. I don't think the kite will take off while half way up the steering line but will definiatly behave badly if released to the steering line and its still flying. Go ask your local Cab dealer and they should explain this better
I've had several SB's and had to self rescue a couple of times, I agree this is not an ideal set up having the flagging line on a stearing line but once the kite is on the water working your way along the single flagging line should not cause the kite to take off and loop but this should not be the way to self rescue. Follow Kitehards instructions and/or practice in the shallows with a mate closeby the kite for safety if you can. Just don't let the loose lines wrap around you or your arm/leg at any time.
