How do you guys go about preventing theft of your gear? It is all about kiting where others are and putting all your gear together?? Safety in numbers? There's a big problem with car break-ins at Perth beaches so not keen on driving down with a full quiver and leaving unused gear in the car.
get together and buy some game cameras if you guys are wanting results on car break ins

insurance.... costs me about $400 extra a year to cover 5 kites, 2 surfboards, twin tip and a wakeboard. Money well spent. You will never stop the thieving scum that cruise our carparks!
Worst part is the WA police don't even care...
so it's so easy for the crims to get away with it. When I reported my car being broken into the lady on the phone was just about sighing as if she had to go to the effort to report it... Pretty freaking annoying.
Vic on the other hand seems to be pretty onto it, thankfully not as frequent
Kanulocks for boards on roof. Boardbags in back of ute with a lock on the zip and a lock to my sliding drawers.
BUT if they want in they want in. Out of site out of mind...
So dark window tint is best and a quick run to a key lock under your car.
Its funny seeing cars totally gone down the beach... I feel sorry for the guys but sometimes its better them than me.
I had all of my gear locked to a roof rack on my car years ago (windsurfing days) and they removed the rack of the car with everything on it. I laugh now. If I am not using it... I dont tend to take it... But I have never had anything stolen from my old rusted hiace... Thieves think better the car the better the haul...
There has been a proposal to have cafe/kiosk facilities at Burns Beach and Pinnaroo Point.
www.inmycommunity.com.au/
Pinnaroo has long been associated with these two activities as well as Surfcat Racing in the past.
I was discussing this with a friend the other day and I suggested the council provide some kind of locker storage area.
Individuals could pay a small annual for a personal locker to store personal items and/or kite/windsurfing gear while out on the water.
This could be run in conjunction with the kiosk/cafe proprietors.
I'd like to see the kite/windsurfing shop there as well.
Any thoughts?
cheers

I leave my keys phone and wallet in a small hand gun safe (eBay about $80) bolted into the car with security screws. I lock unused kite out of site in roller drawers (4x4) and leave glovebox, console, and ashtray open. So far, so good
That's a great idea. I'd be happy to pay 2-5 bucks each time to know my gear is safe.
Great idea in theory but they'd get vandalised within a week unfortunately.
A few of the boys at my nearest kite beach leave spare boards and their gear on the beach and i havent heard of any theft issues but its definitely not as busy as pinneroo etc. I just take the bare minimum to the beach and leave my phone and $20 hidden in my car thats parked on the main road. Keys get locked in a "Seacured" lock thats hidden under my ute tray, out of sight.
Well I have a ute with tinted windows in the canopy. I then cover any anything with a black tarp. Anybody looking in just sees black. plus i use the lockable key padlock thing to keep the keys secure.

Sounds like a serious set up!
I have Seen thing go missing from spots all over the world, as well as car break ins.
I always keep my gear in the boot covered and the glove box open and empty.
You can get cheap non electronic keys cut for nearly all cars, it only needs to open the door.
Then you can connect it to your harness, if you leave stuff on show it an open invertation for the scumbags.
seems pretty common thing, if someone was robbing gear at our local we,d f......g do something about it
