I stayed at Sanur Beach hotel, 100m from J'Carlo's shop.
When at Nusa Dua didn't see any kites for last 2 seasons.

Actually, can you see Nusa Dua from Sanur? Only south of it I guess. Nusa is more expensive than Sanur, on north there are a hell lot of jet ski's (almost got killed by one when kayaking there), and a lot of para sailing.
And the reef is like only 1/4 of Sanur.

I'm thinking Lombok or Lembongan island this year...

If you want underage prostitutes and seedy old failed expats: Sanur

If you want transport, a bintang singlet and a fake Louis Vuiton wallet: Nusa Dua

Also put on the must do list is healthy dose of STI's at Skygarden and the Bounty.

*****Just say Hi to Rhonda when you're there.
********Apparently she's got a 'beautiful brake foot'!!!

Stay away from Manchong!

Hello friends,
actually the one you see from Sanur in Nusa Dua are parasailing no kiters!
At the moment there are very few people kiting there and mostly at Club Med (can't see them as they are too far!).
Sometime when the wind is good I go from Sanur to Nusa Dua with the kite.
Is just a long reach of about 10km starting from the light house in Sanur to the Club Med. My best time from Nusa Dua back to Sanur (slightly down wind) is been 17 minutes!
Every time I went there I always felt that the wind was slightly lighter close to the shore of Nusa Dua.
There is a nice small right hander wave in front of Benoa at the southern tip of Nusa Dua. Nusa Dua in low tide is all dry and can't really kite..
Hope this can help.
Bye Jankie

I'm heading there on thursday to surf but going to throw a kite in as well. apparently you can kite out the front of seminyak but it is cross off. if you head up to canngu it is side shore.

... only been there once but I think sanur is a good base to start from and depending on wind, you can head off to other spots, upwinder or downwinders.

As Jankie said, you can kite to Nusa Dua from Sanur and back again with ease. Infact I was on my way there when I found a brilliant spot on the way didn't bother going any further as I was having too much fun. Stayed there for 2 hours kiting side on wind point break with 3 to 4 foot waves, perfect easy relaxing time.

Mind you when, I got myself in such a zone, when I tried to come back and noticed the 20 or so other kites that were out, were gone!! WTF I thought. As it turned out, the tide dropped and the water dissappeared over the reef. I had to land well downwind and walk back, no big deal and it was the Best 2 hours kiting I had. Side on wind with 3 to 4 foot waves, perfect!

cheers,

Robbie

... I think we were really lucky then, we got 6 out of 7 days, mind you beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if you don't like big kites then it would have been 2 out of 7!

cheers,

Robbie

Hi York's,
That sounds the go, what wind direction is that down winder?
I'll be spending a few days on that side of the island before heading to Balian.

... I think he says it starts off, a bit off shore but by the time you get there, its side shore. I more wonder if its gusty or strong enough at the start?? Any advise YorksBoy?

Come on York's don't leave us hanging

Just had a look and it looks like a s/e down winder your talking about.

I've been to Semi on S/E and it's pretty sheldered.

I go to Bali every year to surf only and met Jankie (nice guy) on a number of occasions.
The reason I don't kite there is I don't weight 45-50 kgs like the locals and basically you will need a 20 meter kite and half the time just get going!
So unless your 50kgs and under don't bother taking gear. Just hire it off Jankie if the wind is in!

coldshot, I've never seen a 20m kite surfing kite in Sanur for last 2 seasons...

I did see a Balinese hand made kites much bigger than 20m tho.See my profile:)

But, you're right, to hire is one option.

PS. Since 2008 I'm not involve with any Kite School..
There are 3-4 schools at the moment at Sanur.
I only help the local crew of Balinese of "Bali Kitesurfing School" at Kite Beach!
You can rent from them, they have pretty much every size of kites.
I do not offer rental of my shop.

PS2... There are no schools/rental in Nusa Dua or other places in Bali.

All the school in Sanur will only rent you kites if you kite under supervision in front of their area.
Hope this can help.
