I've just starting learning to jump and am doing ok except for one thing.
When I'm in the air i find myself always rotating anti-clockwise and end up taking my right hand off the bar to
try and correct it. (I'm only jumping when heading to my left)
I learn't to backroll before i learn't to jump so I'm wondering if i'm taking off with the board pointed too far upwind as
i would just before doing a back roll.
Any tips would be awesome!!
thanks!
id say that seems you learned backroll before jump, you would be unknowingly popping with a twist like a slow backroll. Try thowing yourself forward a bit as the kite hits 12 and you release your edge instead of edging too hard upwind. Im not the best jumper myself but that's what it feels like im doing when I jump
could be a few things, my first bet would be what Wallis says but maybe not so much your popping with a twist, id say your popping too hard with your back foot as a habbit from your backrolls. Also when you line up a jump to release your edge and pop only once you fell like your getting lighter and pop hard (but even footed). seems like alot of things to think at once when you are first practicing jumps but you will get a "feel" for the right time to pop soon enough.
Hope this helps
I'm pretty sure it's because you are jumping downwind and toward the kite, which is a common error learning to boost....
Instead try to lean BACK into the kite and release the toeside edge with the kite at 12, rather than jump forward when the kite is lower and in the middle of the power zone....
It's about balance, kite movement and timing.
Persist!!! We all used to do this, and leaning back and letting the kite pull you rather than jumping forward and downwind will solve this problem.
I also had a rotation problem when learning to jump and none of the above advice helped.
What was happening is that I was overflying the kite past 12 too far and that would cause a pull and hence rotation.
Perhaps just start small and work at it from there.
