do you get spinout (like on a windsurfer?)

am thinking it would be harder to recover from kiting

You do - but it's not the same... It's kinda like getting a twintip back from a slide... You just take the weight off your feet for a sec and it tracks again...

Yea they are fragile... Depends how they're built though - I'm pretty sure the Underground has a Paulownia shell to protect from dings and harness bashes... A few of us have fallen pretty hard on it and it's ok...

On Maui I landed harness first on the nose of the Cab race board and it didn't even leave a scratch - I thought I'd gone through it for sure lol.

The fins are the things we worry about... $500 for the set... Stay away from the reef ey!

Yeah Airush are onto a winner with the s60 - shame they sold out so quick! One of the local guys managed to score a used one at the end of the season - apparently it's super easy to ride.

The main difference seems to be the rail shape, straighter rails = harder to ride

1st Hello to everyone in seabreezeland

Kite Racing Rocks infact just going FAST Rocks!!

Correct me if im wrong but i was in Airborne Kitesurfing in Ozzy Park just last week and i was looking at a Airush Sector 60 so if they can get one in i'm sure other shops still can??? they alsohad the Monaro in stock (super sweet looking board!)

one question though why the hell would anyone in their right mind pay $2000 for a kite board??!!! the Cabrinah boards that you guys are pimping here might be good but at TWICE the price of a Airush Monaro or Sector are they TWICE as fast???
I'm not having a go but i am thinking i must be missing something here $2000 ....Please explain.... is the extra $$$$ in the fins or something like that???

oops sorry people my bad

i just rang Airborne Kitesurfing and they are not selling the Sector that they have in the shop

They are selling the Monaro though and it is only $1050 not $2000
www.airush.com/2010/products/boards.html sick board if you like to go fast!!

just flicking through the rest of this thread (prob should have done that before my first post ay) and kinda spoted the answer to my own question as to why those other boards are so dam expensive....... $500 for fins!!..... hang on it still doesnt explain it??? cos $2000 take away $500 for fins (even tho no fin set is worth $500) is $1500 and that leaves the Monaro @ $500 cheaper

Havnt tried both but my money would be on the Monaro based on what i have seen of the other boards

Im going Fast!!

Hey Rickybobby,

if you want a current world class board you have to go to NJS designs or Alex etc. Their boards are like $1200US+ accessories, not too bad. And then their is the freight and import duty etc. My quote was over $2200 AU landed for a fragile board that is hard to ride.
I went the cheaper option first then once I know how not to break them I'll get a more competitive board.

I think what Jason is also saying, but not saying, so I will say it, is that the Monaro is actually an older design that is now superseeded and discounted.
Maybe it always was this price, however I think I remember it being at a higher price when it first came on the market nearly 12 months ago.

Course racing boards have undergone a lot of changes in the last 12 months, I don't know of any current model board that is only sporting 2 fins for example!

Anyway the Underground board is not 2 grand, nor are the cabrinha's, and the Underground is a race winning latest design with 4 tuttle box, CNC machined G10 epoxy fins, and with tough paulownia laminate layup.

Keep in mind that if you really want - You can buy a top of the line twintip for $2000 now... The Carbon boards from Carved are that much... More for the custom model.

I'm sure you'll see cheap race boards coming out in the future - i'm sure you'll also see the fins snap off, and they'll cross the line in second place...

You get what you pay for... If they could make a decent board for $999, they would!
