Hi, I was wondering if anyone in Australia was recycling old kites (to make bags, wallets, etc...)? I'm moving house and have a few non-flying kites to give away: 9m Slingshot fuel 07, 16m Naish torch II, 8m Naish AeroII, 10m Naish X3, and 11m F-one tribal. contact me if interested! it's free :0)

I've also got some vintage kites from 2001/2003 that belong in a museum. Way too dangerous to sell, so if anyone has great ideas about recycling let me know.

A few years back Kitepower Sydney had a 'Kite Amnesty' where they took any old kite in (I think it had to be complete with bar) in return for a v attractive discount on a new kite in the order of 20%.

Not sure whether that is an annual event as I have moved from Syd.

They did assure me that they would recycle rather than onsell dangerous kites.

Surey there would be some old 'tip rats' who will try and grab these and take them down to their local this summer..

Or even put them on gumtree after they have collected them..

Since there is amnesty in progress, I have the following on offer:

2003 Cabrinha Access 9m - a couple minor pinprick repairs from self launching.
2003 Cabrinha CO2 12m - last flown about 8 months ago IMHO still a great kite with no leaks and in great condition.
And a
2004 Cabrinha Nitro 14m - only flown 6 times and in as new condition

Can't bring myself to chuck them in the bin, can't sell them on gumtree because I'm too honest and moral but would love to make space for something else.

What to do........what to do.......?

ive bought a janome mini that i am practiceing to use to repair kites. i would like an old kite that is made from simular material to practice my repairs on.
only thing i really require is that the canopy isnt SUPER thin from the sun damage etc. if its to thin the thread doesnt hande it to well.
send me a pm or email if youd like to donate one to me.

i know someone in sydney who is a bit hungry for fashion and costume design i imagine she could make literally anything with the material ill give her a call now and see if she is keen. she may even pay $$$ for some.

A while (ie a few years) ago there was a woman who posted on here looking for old kites that she would use to make other items. The deal she offered was if someone gave her a kite, she would make a bag for them from the kite (and use the rest of the fabric herself).I don't know if she is still around but it seemed like a win-win to me.

Just did a quick search, she's no longer on seabreeze (well, at least not under the original username)...

I seem to remember reading that there was a place that took old kites and took all the good bits off and stored them.
If someone needed a rare spare they would sell you said part for a small profit.

Nearly certain I read it on seabreeze..
