Hey guys I have been doing lots of google searches and reading reviews on what gear is good for a beginner but was hoping i might get some good advice on here.

Here is some information. Im 6"2 weigh 90kgs just moved to perth. I have done a couple of lessons and the instructor recommended a 10m kite but i would like some more info eg. A good brand and style that will last while im learning. I dont really have a budget as i dont mind spending money on a setup. Ive only done two lessons and already totally hooked will be staying in the sport for a long time.
Any information you have will be much appreciated
Cheers

Pretty much any used kite newer than 2008 will do the job, avoiding c kites.
What did you instructor suggest? Do you plan to ride surfboard or twin tip?
A 10 sounds about right. There is amazing bargains in the used section, so just hunt around and find something that's hardly been used.

Why are you asking us, in a forum with a zillion views and opinions? Shouldn't you just 'trust' your own instructor's advice?

The board size you would be looking for at your weight would be a 136-138 once you have a bit of experience, a longer wider board will get you up easier but wont be much fun in 6 months, steer away from the carbon fiber and fancy bottom designs for now as they will be too stiff and you wont have the necessary skills to get the most out of them for a while yet, also get yourself the most colorful board you can as it is easier to find in the water when you lose it. Brand doesn't really matter with your board.

Best kites for beginers (lots more than this but these are the ones ive had dealings with)

Best Kahoona
Cabrinha Switchblade
Ozone Catalyst
Crazyfly Sculp
Slingshot Rally

also any kite sold as a wave kite is also good for beginners

Buy at your local shop.Usually plenty of gear on offer and you get the back up and advise.
Most will do a good deal to get you in and have you for life.

I Wouldn't go earlier than 2013.

Lot's of very good value 2nd hand around if you dig about.

The following are all good for learning and beyond.
Bandit
Rally
Drifter
Dice
Prodigy (bargain 2014 9.5m avail here without bar - not affiliated, but you will need bar & lines with that as it's kite only. We have one also with a bar for a bit more)

We teach on these and they are light on the bar, smooth, super stable and not jittery or over reactive. They are also one of the best wave kites going. Their drift is 2nd to none, meaning they will stay in the sky longer when you are getting smashed by waves or by trying a new move!
Best thing I like is riding waves into the wind and not getting dragged off the face. This is great for surfing when you're not doing a downwinder.

Drift means you can run straight at your kite when overpowered/ heading home/ cathing a wave and it just stays where you put it. This is the big plus to learning on a wave kite as compared to C's or Race Style Bow's or whatever, they are unbeatable for what they're designed for but a nice steady wave kite seems the best for learning in my experience.

Good luck, you're in the right place here to find some good stuff.
