Thanks Craig66. So its seem the rumours about Cab kites relationship with trees is true after all! Fortunately the only thing that came off second best in this strange attempt at kite flying was my ego.

ive fished near this section of water which leads to the boardwalk in the in and out tide, I wouldn't be worried about the stingrays

Not so much bad luck as stupidity. He was just learning to jump and was warned to stay upwind and outside the line of mangroves and didn't, hence the result. Happened mid morning at high tide. He had to wait until late afternoon and use a ladder to retrieve kite. Photos are from the second time (out of three) last season he did this.
