Hey guys,

I have just had a year off the water (dam knee). I went out for my first kite on the weekend and noticed my depower rope had corroded a little which prevented me from being able to depower. Does anyone do repairs in Brisbane on this sort of thing?

Btw it was a great first session :)

Cheers

Padi can sell you a new depower rope with the cleat and chicken loop.... but.... I have three havocs and love the kites but all of the cleats corrode very fast (and i do wash them out) One problem is getting the depower rope to grip but another is to get it to pull out of the cleat when the wind is honking enough to need it. I've given up with it. The Havocs have such good depower at the bar that I just choose the back line knot that suits the conditions and ride fully powered all the time...Of course if you want to unhook then this is a problem. Replacing this cleat is on my wish list for the Liquid Force Kites.

Cheers Pop,

Have you tried a different bar? I have a brand new sprectrum 2 bar i never used, i may swich the lines and give it a go.

Yeah, it doesn't matter when you are hooked in but when you unhook and it is really windy is is inconvient.

I haven't tried another bar but have thought of giving it a go... Can't see why the havoc wouldn't fly on anything with a decent depower throw as long as the lines are set up the same,

We can replace just the c-loop for $50 or a complete system for $80. Takes about 5 minutes. As with all stainless, key is to take care and maintain your gear well. With c-loops, pull depower rope out of cleat each weekend and wash with freah water. I have cleats and ropes over 2 seasons with no signs of corrosion nor wear. At the same time, a team rider never washed his gear, came back with corroded cleat and frayed rope within 3 months.

If you see any signs of corrosion, try putting cleat in kitchen sink, pour boiling water from kettle into cleat to see if corrosion will wash off.

yer dude easiest (and what i did with the CL) is just put an above the bar depower strap in and a single rope going through middle, less clutter around ur fingers and a easier depower system, works joy. also with one less rope the rope itself wears out less too. as long as the 4 lines are of equal length when bar is fully pulled in u shud b right with any bar.

ps ud find the kites fly better on full power no matter the wind, when u depower they race forwards too much
