Hiya - can anyone recommend a kiting school anywhere in Vanuatu? I'm planning to go mid July through to about 10 August this year.
Also, I've read that you need to get special permission to kite off the private island of Kakula - anyone know where/how to go about this?
thanks in anticipation...
I've kited there once (well, 3 times, same holiday). I was there in Aug and it was howling. There's lots of reef on some of the islands, so if you have booties, take them.
There are some private islands, the locals say there are cannibals there... I'm sceptical... but didn't have a reason to put it to the test.
I stayed at Breakers beach resort and had to inflate my kite on a 4m wide beach, then drag my kite out of the wind shadow... over the reef.
There's some pretty significant reef waves here and there.
From what I saw, I'd not recommend it for learners, due to the shallow beach, reef, etc.
That said, if I was in your shoes, I'd still give it a go and hope!
Was there last year and believe there was a kite school on the main island near Port Villa. As has been said the place has serious reefs around the island with the northern end the best with sandy beaches but not facing the wind. I was there two weeks and it blew every day 20-25 day and night. Great wind, great people just limited kiting places. The other islands may be different and have more suitable beaches. I stayed at Eratap which did have its own island but strong currents wraped around the island.
hey Hardcarve and Salty Sinus - many thanks for replies. Think I will just head over and see what happens...
