Summer time makes me want one. Its so freaking sunny and hot. Did a mega downwinder today to return to my van safe but with bush fire on both sides. beach then bushfire then road then bushfire. drove through bush fire to get home and see another bushfire a couple of blocks straight up wind from my house. Really i should be looking up contents insurance but it was such a good down winder that i'm more concerned about kiting....

Anyone had one that was good for kiting. less freaky looking the better.

Can you breath ok in them. I just want to wear a balaclava and sunnies and no more zinc/ sunscreen..

Info on suitable options appreciated.

I got a good hat from kitepower - it is a full brim hat with a chin strap that keeps it on, the strap comes down and covers the ears as well.

Works well for me - with my receding hairline the sun really rips into the top of my head.

The only problem is that I have lost the frigging thing, turning the house upside down to try to find it now.....

Can't remember the brand though. Someone will jump on and tell me though.

I am thinking it was a Peak hat (www.peak.com.au/) - but try searching for "Peak Hat" - that way leads to a large volume of fail.......

Do a search for Neoprene Snow Mask and you'll find plenty. They do exist. I think Dakine might make some kiting ones as well.

You'll scare small children if you go around in the middle of summer wearing a ski mask. Go for zink cream. The only thing that will remove it is a towel.

Smedg,
Bandana Option?, easy fit, does not restrict your vision, dosen't come off when the trick goes wrong - great for those that are thining on top I am in the tropics at the moment and has worked for me with a little cream on the shnoz.
Check out Ebay <http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38&_nkw=durag+bandana&_sacat=See-All-Categories>; for a few ideas and you can wear it on the Harley when there is no wind!

hi smedg,
I use the peak hat pictured and seaspecs and cream. I like the idea of a balaclava but think it would make my sunnies fog. the best thing about the peak hat is that it has quite a wide chin strap that covers the whole ear and a fair bit of the face - Use it for that more than the brim as I have moles on my ears. I then use cream on my face.... I have also heard of people using a gath helmet with face visor that cavers your whole face.

WTF do those bandanas do for sun protection? sweet FA. Useful for identifying yourself as a fxckwit IMHO!

may mate "LanceKenny" had a skin cancer scare last year and after all the treatment stopped into the "Skins" or "Radiator" factory in Freo and had a balaclava custom made. basically full face protection.

Look him up on the forum and send him a PM< he'd be happy to help !

Hey Bargearse,
Quick Question for you - Not too long ago lost a mate to cancer and he wore a bandana as do some patients for obvious reasons when outside, do you reckon they look like fxckwits too?
If your ever down on the East Coast and you see a kiter with a black bandana, come and say hello, introduce yourself, as the fxckwit will be me, and maybe we can talk about your humble opinion.

Laurie,
Only new to the forum, and thought it a great place for kiters to exchange ideas read details and gain from other exeperienced kiters, have a bit of fun, in accordance with the forum guidelines, alas sadly mistaken. Good response to the origional question by Bargearse, as were the others, but I don't have to take this personal crap. Short and sweet, tks.

Whoa! From "how to stop getting cancer" to fxckwits, gays & personal threats of violence.

Be nice eh? What's with all the ego?

I've lost close friends (i.e. DEAD) to cancer, and currently have one who may lose his sight due to cancer.

You guys who are calling each other names will soon learn how the sun kills.

Surely a bit of respect for those who have been affected by skin cancer wouldn't go astray.

Regardless of whether its about cancer or not, keep it friendly eh? We're all in this sport together, to help each other out...

This forum is all those great things you say, and there's thousands of topics to prove it.

Don't let one post by one person about a subject very close to you, cloud your view of the whole community.

Looking at bargearse's posting history, it's clear he's not an evil person out to get ya. Often we read things in the mood we're in, rather than the mood the author was in.

Enjoy .. Lozza

WTF you actually wear a hat and sunscreen .... and you admit it
What sort of douche bag unAustalian homo would you be
Real Men and certainly Real Kiters shouldnt be seen dead like that.
Cant you all see that hats and sunscreen is where all this 'gay' stuff started.
HTFU - Ban everyone seen wearing anything but good old true-blue Aussie bloke budgie smugglers.
Everything else is just about health and safety and staying alive and sometimes even comfort - no place for that in kiting. No way.

Ah the joy of opinion!!!!!!!! Much of which, stems from uninformed.
Here some information for the uninformed if they could be bothered to read it.
An article that should cause some debate & raise some eyebrows if you can read the whole thing.
If not just skim down to the conclusion.

(Copy & paste into your browser)

Basically zinc oxide products are better than titanium oxides & that Buff thing looks like a winner.
If you wear the iconic budgie smugglers then a balaclava should be a mandatory fashion accessory.

hi acepara,

I didn't call anyone with cancer a fxckwit. Cancer patients have nothing but my upmost respect and empathy.

I did suggest that people (in the context of kiteboarding) wearing them as sun protection would look like a fxckwit. And I probably should have used a nicer word like knob, tool or dxckhead. I do believe that knobs wear them. The americans call them buffs. They love them. So do harley riders. But that's just my opinion. If you are up this way wearing your bandana be sure to come over and give me a big high five, or maybe we can bump chests and let out a loud 'booya'. awesome

Sugested to Lorrie we get together for the State of Origion over a beer or 2 after a serious days kiting with, hats, balaclavers, sunnies, zinc cream and best of all - bordies over the wet suit - god forbid.
appolgise - "booya dude", I'll give you an Email if I'm up QLD way, likewise if your down NSW.

In case anyone was interested. I've ended up ordering something similar to what
kevinwd1 suggested. The face on the one ive ordered seems slightly more closed in and its got a pocket for my key which i'll use but don't really need. Anyway Lance Kenny was very helpful as suggested and pointed me at this FCS INDO LS RASHVEST

For anyone interested Lance suggests these skin products www.burtsbees.com/
