Hi all...
Was looking for a few tips on West Java.
Was going to travel to Aceh but there did not look like a lot of options for waves there and with 3 kite resorts..... figured it would be too busy for the waves on offer!!...not my scene...
Ive heard west Java can have good wind and looks like better coast to explore on google earth but saying that all the waves look pretty busy on the surfing scene....
Would appreciate any info.
Heading somewhere in indo in june/july and only interested in waves. Cheers![]()
Surfing trips. Keep an eye on ocean temp and hit it when cold as it was really windy and cold the two different weeks I was there. Easy triple overhead as well both times. I reckon the cold water rushes seasonally to the pacific through there and if you time it you would score. The cold water creates an intense sea breeze.

Thanks SiMalas. Turtles beach looks sick on my list for 2017,2018 I assume the wind month is september ??
Been researching Rote island to the east for next august
Quote " .............. dry season when the south-east trades blow, especially July and August, and Rote is known as one of the windiest of the Indonesian islands. Wet season features less wind from variable directions, though the island can be affected by nearby cyclones off the Australian coast during this period. Rainfall is lower overall than most Western Indonesian islands, with fewer mosquitos as a result."
Anyone kited there ?

Please allow me to speak for everyone........no no-one ever has.
Yes "no one has" ,lol, but if you do make sure to bring a 6m ,lol. :-)
As to wind, the indo trades are best usually in June and July, with the months outside that a bit hit and miss though they can be really good too. The wind varies with one side being good while the other isn't. You get local effects and obviously places with more wind than others. But it is surprising just how much of Indo blows in the good months, it feels like it is everywhere. Smaller islands seem to be a good choice for wind.
There is windguru and windfinder etc which can be good. I also like this site earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-249.23,-9.80,429 If you give it a regular look during the windy months ( may to oct) you will start to see what is going on. Oh and another great indicator for strong wind at a place in indo is if the ferrys get cancelled regularly at any time. This is because of rough seas caused by wind :-) hence relying on ferries in places like Rote during the windy months can cause you to miss connecting flights.
