Time to graduate from my local to scabs perhaps. It's close to home and seems to have a few ripping it up. I have been going upwind for a long time now and I can do a few newbie tricks but I'm getting bored (as of today)
Need to knows about the spot?
Does everyone self launch or is it a bit of a community?
Am I wasting my time on a twinny?
And most importantly do you see any chicks kiting there?
Cheers
you will always find someone to launch your kite. everyone is friendly. you will quickly make friends and pepole will look out for you.
soon you will be doing downwinders![]()
Yeah theres a few chicks that kite there. No worries getting a launch / land. Only thing to worry about on a twinnie is dont crowd the surfers ripping it up. If someone is on a wave, stay out of the way. Turn around if need be and you will be everyones friend. Try not to run over any swimmers, thats a bad look.
all good with care for people ripping it up and swimmers I'm super keen to keep my distance. I think I do want to get into the surf though.....I can already surf and really enjoy cruising around on my twinny on little waves.
Now I'm excited. You'll see me on a 7 ozone or a 9.5 pink Kahoona
I kited Scarborough for the first time on Tuesday, Well Brighton beach anyway (same thing?).... Totally different than kiteing up at Pinna's. My kiteing was a bit messy due to thinking about what i was doing to much. Theres a hell of alot of water moving around out there! But defo good fun. I reckon after a few sessions getting used to the swell, currents, waves etc its gonna SUPER..
Oh n i was on a twintip, didnt seem to be a problem, theres plenty of ramps out there to be jumping off =)
Try kiteing allot one or two paths south of brighton just is not such a mass of crew and away from swimmers area in summer.
There is a core group of kiters that regularly kite at Brighton, but the majority just finish their downwinders there and that is why you may see large numbers of kiters there.
As Summer approaches be aware of other water/beach users, eg. swimmers, surfers and other people on the beach. Brighton may have a large number of swimmers on some days, this is not a good time to drift downwind.
As mentioned above there is stacks of room between floreat and brighton, as well as between swanbourne and city beach, with some decent banks if yu have a look around.
Don't be a sheep!
And if you are unsure or need help, just ask.
Enjoy
Matt
Er.. friendly advice via PM perhaps?
It's a great area but it is pretty busy.. did I mention PMing? ![]()
Enjoy Ms o.
EDIT: You don't wanna go there really..
There's big sharks, agro poleys, teuros camping out washing dishes in the showers, crazy kamikaze body draggers, rabid dogs.. ![]()
OK there's no rabid dogs and the poleys are pretty quiet.![]()
if your into tricks and landing them, doesnt seem to be an ideal location due to the swell and the troughs in between.
i dont see any of the twin tippers out there do anything besides going in and out and generally getting in the way ![]()
Welcome to Scabs!
Coming from the pond, this is 'graduating'. Good luck in your post grad edjikashun!!
This is our Seabreeze ID. Please PM for more details and to join! :-)
As other questions already adequately covered,
Guidelines for Kitesurfing around Scarborough
1. Stay away from surf lifesaving flags; keep at least 50m upwind and downwind and stay at least 200m out to sea.
2. Stay away from the surf club area when Lifesavers are training, and on busy days when swimmers spill out from between the flags.
3. Don't launch and land on the grassed area, and don't walk up or down the path with your kite in the air
Also, if doing downwinders, please do not kite between the City Beach groynes and near the 'kiddie beach' in front of Floreat SLSC.
Most of all, have fun!
Shan.
Aww Elisha you're abandoning us???????? :(
I'm sure you'll be able to hold your own in the waves but I've never seen any girls kite down there.. I think all the chicks are at Woodies or the pond actually.
There needs to be more women in the waves.
Its blokes world out there
Go grab a demo surfboard from Dazza Little o and learn yourself a whole set of new skills.
I take my sister on down winders pretty often. She still a bit of a learner but doing well. I kite there so she hasnt much choice in the matter. Im sure she will be keen for some company. PM me and Ill give you her number.
bah you guys are hillarious. Daz there hasn't been a beer cracked since you left. and no whooohooo's either.
Still going to give it a go. Maybe find a spot for the next WACk gathering...
hahaha I think i'll share my time between the two and see which makes me smile the biggest.
We had a beer after the session on friday night. It was well deserved after my bridle snapped, although i was only 30 meters out.
Summers just beginning i am sure the atmosphere will change with the hotter days and a more regular breeze.
