what a **** wind season we have in perth compared to 2 years ago.

in january to march 07, I remember going kiting whenever I wanted, without checking the forecasts, and always having 20 knots +, It was always sunny.

its not the same anymore, good if we can kite 2 days a week

www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/wa_last30.asp

does seabreeze have the wind stats from few years ago? like the graph above.
did you guys notice it?

Weather tends to run in 7 year cycles and there is also something about the El Ni?o and La Ni?a bla bla which effects wind and weather over periods. Don't worry it will come back one day. Its good in Noosa, you have our crap wind from last year.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Ni%C3%B1o-Southern_Oscillation

Couldn't be bothered reading it all, see link above, you figure it out

Have Fun!

Thats last year's model. This year its changed from the southern oscillation to Indian titillation.

When the titillation oscillates a lot its called the titillated Indian oscillot. At the other end of the cycle, when the oscillated Indian titillates a lot its called oscillating the Indian titsa...... hang on - I might be confusing it with something else....

It hasn`t been bad this summer. Kited more than two days a week most of the time? Remember a good few weeks of constant green arrows and howling on the beach. Admittedly it seems to be droping off early, but it did come in early as well, mid december. I think we still due for some good spells.
It`s just that we`re too spoilt here, there`re people around the world who would die for the conditions we have here in W.A.
Talking to the Euro`s that come over here and most of their best conditions are like what we experience through winter.
I guess we just have to take it as it comes and hope next season is an even better one.

Are you kidding Enicao??

This was the probably WA's best wind season for 12 years according to some of the older windsurfers around. I am sure there are many reading this forum who had a similar season to me.

I kited all but 2 days in December and the same in January.

My body was virtually worn out.

I snapped 3 surfboards, 2 depower loops and had to replace my lines and replace worn out bridles and pulleys on my little kites.

My poor old 7m was ridden constantly and is more worn out than a Pat-pong road bargirl, and finally despairing of being blown off the water on the 7m, I bought a 5m for the first time [and I am 90kgs].

Either the salt water has got in your brain or the past 2 weeks of crappy conditions have clearly tarnished your memories already.

If this season was not windy enough you had better move to Geraldton.

My suspicion Enicao is that your kite skills 2 years ago made it feel like 20 kts everyday as it definitely was windier this year.

Remember it's now nearly March and the reliability of the seabreeze has gone with frequent troughs as usual.

Yep,
Even on the stinking hot days,
say 35 C,
the breeze snapped in like clockwork.
This season, the West Coast truly lived up to it's own hype.

Totally agree niall getting plenty of plenty.. How does the 5 go have been thinking of getting a 6.Again today it hit 30 knots and the 8 is a hand full. Having a fuller frame myself at 90kgs have been wandering how good it would be to have 1 more kite to choose from a 5 or a 6.Which type are you using?

You have to be joking. This season in Lano has been going mad. Not only have we had wind but also swell. After a year and a half up here you leave the weekends to the wood ducks and enjoy the the week day afternoons at passage and points further afield with the kiting and wind surfing crew who are local.
if you aren't getting amongst it you are lost.............

2008 RRD type 9 - 'the worlds fastest turning kite' replaced this year by the Obsession a kite tempered with much better manners than the type 9 it must be said. I got the 5m type 9 at a 'run out stock' price. Completes my quiver of type (s with the 7 , 9 and 12. I have ridden the 5m twice and its an interesting animal .........it turns before you can think 'turn'........ and I'm looking to ride it more to rein that animal spirit in.

If you haven't tried an RRD I strongly recommend a demo from John and Andy at SOS at Freo. For many coming from slower kites but who have built the skills to enjoy speed --the Obsession has been a revelation along the lines of 'this is what kiting's really about, with turning speed, wind range, upwind ability and boosting power, all despite extreme stability. The type 9s are inferior in all ways except turning speed which is why I stuck with them this year but the 5m Type 9 might just be the one that's too quick for it's own good [or maybe I'm too slow].

I have also flown the Obsession 5m and could not fault that as an extreme conditions kite and would have gone for that if the budget allowed
