Anyone heard about this accident in Jomtien in Thailand ?
I'm not familiar with kitesurfing in Thailand at all. One of the people in this story is only 14 years old.

Think about it for a second...

How could 2 kiters both be lifted 200m at once? Both joined together (highly unlikely..) or a massive gust came through lofting only 2 kiters 200m up and both landing on the same rooftop and surviving with suspected broken bones. Also highly unlikely.

What is likely is that it was a tandem paragliding or parasailing accident. In a country where the best looking girls are ladyboys, its no wonder they got it wrong.

Bangkok post story

Paragliders end up injured on hotel rooftop

Two French paragliderswere seriously injured when a gust of wind blew them onto the roof of a Jomtien Beach hotel in Chon Buri province Wednesday afternoon.

Narayan Keita, 28 and 14-year-old Tatyana Fadeyeya sufferedbroken bones and serious cuts when wind shot the paragliders 200 metres into the air before dragging them onto the roof of the Marina Building of the Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel in tambon Na Jomtien of Sattahip district.

apparently the were paragliding behind a boat, the usual tourist thing in Thailand, I watched them In Phuket last year, many close calls with unexpected dumps in the water, missed landings, hitting palm tress, and other objects/people on beach, not surprised, tow rope probably snapped.

That actually makes sense. Probably a paragliding accident and the "journalists" reporting it got it completely wrong. I visited Thailand in 2010 and saw some tourists paragliding in Phuket. The Thai guy climbed up on top of the ropes/parachute that was carrying the tourists. No safety harness whatsoever. He was up in the air not a bother on him. Scary...

While I was in Pattaya a woman on her honeymoon tried this paragliding behind a speedboat (very popular there). The tow rope wrapped around the prop pulling her real fast straight into the prop. Needless to say she did not survive the honeymoon was over. One hour later it was business as usual and paragliding was as popular as ever.

I was there and filmed the accident.
Well, it was by coincidence. The guy just grabbed a kite and flew up in the air...
Then I was like "wowww theres a guy up there, look!".

ParaSailing, is a way of introducing peeps to a (lame) aviated activity, i.e. rope generating lift.

Please don't confuse it with the other free flying sports..

Be careful, the windsurfers may substitute the first word in that post with 'kiting'

So concerning the video with the kitesurfing leprechaun in the top hat, if the guy that was lofted was hooked in and he pushed the bar all the way out, wouldnt that be enough depower to stop him getting lofted, unless its like a 2 line kite because he hooks and unhooks a lot in the video.

In those days even the 4 line kites had almost no depower!
