hey heading to fiji in august, not sure if i should take a kite or not. Staying at sheraton denarau for a wedding for a week looks like trade winds are southerly round aug so may not be worth it as the beach there looks like it would only work in east through north to nw. Could maybe walk around the headland to get southerly? Anyone stayed there and reckon you could launch off the beach as wont be traveling much also what wind range thinking 12m? Says windsurf gear for hire so hoping there is wind otherwise will have to do something gay like tennis or hire a poley but would rather go for long walks on the beach then wind surf.

Thanks

Hey Littlewing was at the Raddison Denarau last August / September sorry to tell you that the wind is crap around there, had some great kiting days on Plantation island and Mana Island, have heard that the Coral coast can be awesome so unless you are willing to travel out of Denarau I wouldn't bother with the kites, you'll probably be disappointed

Thanks for the replies, would probably only go to coral coast 1 or 2 days so won lug all the gear around doesnt seem worth it. Might save some points with the mrs to kite back here. Woulda been sick if wind was good right at hotel, it will suck if we get wind! Looks like im playing tennis and hanging with the inlaws

i took my kite gear to fiji in july last year. we spent most our time on the Yasawa islands so i can't comment on your location. but we had a couple of good days of wind when we were there. only problem was that i was on the wrong side of the island and didn't have alot of time to go for a treak to the other side of those islands. alot of the resorts are located on the west side of islands i suppose for the very purpose of sheltering from the trade winds. I didn't think trade winds went southerly?? i thought the trades were predominately easterly. they were east when i was there. if i were you i'd bring the gear. besides once you are there you hardly have to carry your own bags anyway

i am going to Fiji from June 28 - July 24, staying in Nadi and hiring boat charters to hit the outer reefs off Namotu and Tavarua. Surfboards only, no twin tips allowed. Anyone keen to join send me a pm.
