Im planning a kiteboarding trip for mid July somewhere in Australia (school holidays), but not sure where to go. Im looking for a place that fulfill the following condiditons:
Wind - Consistancy, doesn't have to be all that strong, just blowing
Accommodation - cheap, walking distance from a kiting beach
- doesn't have to be luxorious, just close to a kiting beach
17 year old friendly, and not overly expensive airfares to get there
I was thinking maybe cocos, as I had a friend that used to live there, but not sure when the tradies start kicking in over there. Maybe cairns/townsville?
Any suggestions would be helpful
hey dude, I live about a 10 min walk from 7mile beach NSW, Which from around nov till now has some awesome wind from what iv herd(iv only moved here in the last month). Thats if u like kiting in abit of swell. Few local guys are constatnly out. Can perform good downwinders on the beach too. But ur after july, dont think it would be best to come here in that time. But someone from around here might say its still alright.
Cairns would probably be a good bet for that time of year.
Airfares can be had for ~$280 return (from Melb) when they're on sale, otherwise ~$450 return. Then you can either stay around Cairns and head to Yorkeys Knob for the kiting, or you can head further up the coast to Cape Tribulation (ala. Daintree Rainforest).
If i recall there was a place up there that was like backpackers accomodation price, right near a couple of great beaches, and was always populated by Euro backpackers (ala. Swedish hotties).
FWIW i'm headed up to Cairns mid-May and will be kiting for the entire week if the weather behaves itself. ![]()
