Have found myself with a few weeks off and am keen to dissappear and kite somewhere within a few timezones of Melbourne, preference is asia due to cost and wanting to leave this week. any ideas would be great.

Get a cheap flight to Cairns, then kite at port douglas 4mile beach or Yorkies Knob.
take a 12m, directional if you've got it, and if you've got anything bigger like a 14m->17m, take that also as the wind tends to be less punchy in reality.

Salty sinus is spot on, any further north will cost you many $$$$ especially if you're planning a few weeks
