hey I was told not to keep my kite in the car during the heat of the day, is that still the go for new kites, ie 2008-09 models.
I'd be able to get to the water faster after work and not have to stuff around pulling in home to grab my gear.
Any thoughts?
Hoery
I'd be wary after my recent incident.
Had kites in the car for a couple of days and was about to go to work when my gf said I should take the kites out which I did. Got back to my car after work and the passenger window was smashed and the car had been ransacked.
I don't take em to work anymore ![]()
Damn junkies ![]()
Things to be aware of is:
- Not leaving your struts inflated or else they will pop
- The glue holding on valves (although some are stitched now day) gets very weak in hot temperatures (i.e. a car boot) and can leak when pumped up while hot (and then they leak until repaired)
- if your boot is not sealed (ie. is open to the rest of the car) then the UV will do way more damage than the heat.
-Theft
All those things said, I keep em in my car most of the time and definitely if I'm planning a post-work sessions
my bra has a slow leak in his brand new 08 vages from leaving it in the car
there is nothi worse than haven slow leak ![]()
yes this is one of the reasons you should get an 09 kite .they now have expansion under duress chambers if you leave the struts pumped up and your black beamer left in the sun on a 42 degree day ,plus they have a self protect system where if your car is broken into by junkies the inflated struts will wrestle with them and choke them to death if they don't give the auto wrestle feature the proper voice command that deactivates it .
well after having almost every valve fall of my naish shockwave (piece of cr*ap)
I now try my best not to leave them in the car. When I do I try and leave a gap in the windows and park in the shade.
You can't really take them into work if you have to skive of early cos the winds up and you are trying to smuggle out two kites!!
My Naish torch lost its first valve in the Exmouth heat this year
.
Kind of hard to avoid when you're on the road.
Fortunately my surfboard doesn't deflate.
Almost threw the bourbon cans out of the esky...
For what it's worth, I've had two kites is the boot of my car 24 hours a day, nearly 360 days a year for around eight years. (er... not the same two! (and not the same boot)) I once had a valve come off the bladder, but it was a batch of kites notorious for faulty valves. I do let the air out of the struts.
My technique is to put a couple of wet rashies and wetsuits in there as well, and a few buckets of wet sand. This keeps the temperature under boiling point, and the rust in the boot keeps the oxygen level low.
The way I look at it, the best way to keep your kites in good condition is keep them at home and not use them. I prefer to kite a lot.
