My yearly pre season post, its the cheapest bit of kit , but the most important, get along to your local shop and get one on your person, even if you dont save yourself your equipped to save someone else

It also helps to check if your knife is still sharp as most will never have to use it. I keep my blade covered in surfboard wax and it prevents any corrosion. Every 6 months or so I will pull it out and try and cut a line to make sure it is still sharp. I rewax and pack it away in it's sheath. I have had this knife for 4 years and still cuts like butter.

The normal kite line cutters seem to corrode quite quickly. Take a look at the trilobite line cutters. Double sided, will cut rope up to 10mm and webbing in one pass, come with spare blades and a pouch you can place on your harness in easy reach. Best I've seen. Most good dive shops carry them.
