hi guys
just wondering what is the best technique for jumping waves whilst heading out through the surf. I love riding in the surf and when i confront a large wave(i.e one i can't ride over) i usually have to turn and floor it away. what do you suggest is the best way to jump them easily?
Ummm..... jump the wave
Edge, send the kite, pull the bar in, boost.....enjoy the view....maybe clear the next wave if you're feeling lucky.

Make sure you have some speed keep the kite real low,and just before you get to the wave nose dive, just like a duck dive surfing. When under water pull one side of the bar in and loop through the back of the wave.
Why can't you ride over it? Unless it is at the exact point of breaking any wave is easy to ride over, foamy or green.
If an unbroken wave looks too steep and/or too big, and you're concerned about getting launched too high or something, speed up bear downwind as you ride over it.
If it has broken and is a mass of foam just pop a little and lean back as you hit it. You will slow down in the foam but should be able to ride over it.
With a little effort you can judge any wave from well enough back to avoid it breaking on your head by either speeding up or slowing down well in advance. Use one of the two techniques above and you'll be out the back first time every time.
Bear off, then ride over the shoulder. Ie. Gun it downwind on the inside, then point hard when you're over the shoulder.![]()
