Great soundtrack! So many memories....
I prefer video's with crazy dutch kids trying to kill themselves with high altitude double kiteloops, but you guys look like you're loving it, and thats what counts.

A violin concerto would make better background music.....given the riding that I saw.

lol harsh, but yeah was a little on the tame side eh.

Anyhow to be of some help here's a couple of tips!

Invest in a tripod - don't bother with zoom can do that digitally but zooming in without a tripod and it makes the camera shake sea sickening

Make sure the camera is in focus... perhaps I need glasses I duno but seemed like most times it was out of focus to me.

Clip should have been shorter even if it didn't match the songs length. Use a fade in and fade out effect for the music.

Here is a movie editor I have used for wedding movies editing (will do some kite videos this summer in the surf down here)
it has a free 30 day trial and for what its worth compared to 1000 dollar plus video software it has a lot of features -

a camera shake filter :)

can chrome video onto diff backgrounds (like the blue screen effect)

inset video (like close up of the subjects face while main video is playing)

duotone effects - (artificial sun setting - increase the red tone)

old film look and lens flare effects...

heaps of fade in fade out effects for video clip transitions.

the usual array of zoom and pan functions.

slow down and speed up video - like a slow motion effect mid jump

sound is easy to edit along movie timeline with the real time fade in fade out control as you play each video clip. voice overlay and all that stuff..

most importantly its idiot proof and so easy to learn to use (hence why I use it).

I use the plus version.

Looking at the damo video that andy gordon did there is a lot in the software above that could do some of the effects in that clip - it still comes down to camera shots to what you can work with in the software and your artistic flare of course to put all the effects together to make it have that wow effect!

Keep it up though, can only improve ;)

Just a few thing to add to cwamit's post.

Unless you are trying to do a doco, keep your edits a lot shorter. Cut with the action. Andy Gordon's 'The Western Shore' is a fine example of great editing. Also keep away from the cheezy video transitions effects that come with the editing package. You don't see them used in the professional films.

Look at some of the kite boarding DVDs out there & learn from the way they shoot & edit.

And yes, invest in a tripod, go for a heavier one as you will be surprised how much the lighter weight ones shake in a 20knt wind. Also try not to use the digital zoom, use up to the limits of your optical zoom. The digital zoom only makes the footage look crappy. If you really start to get into doing this stuff, you can invest in a tele lens converter for your videocam to get closer to the action.

cheers

nice try. looked a bit on the weak side though, maybe gather clips from more than one session so u have a collection of action.

oh and UV filters are a must when shooting in overcast conditions and also a tripod, and as cwamit said get the cam's auto focus running and cut to the chase!! where is this btw?

Yeah she's a bit tame bloke... The edits worked in good with the "action".

All the same a good crack though. I've done some moutain biking stuff where you think something must look really extreme when you do it but when you look back at it, it doesn't look half as good.

Keep plugging away fellas.

hey atleast they got a trolley for their kit. in summer i ride down with board under one arm and 2 kties in one bag its fully worth it in summer but winters dodgem sessions arent.

as for the filming, you should consider getting a MONOPOD for the camera instead of a tripod. its easier to follow the rider around on it and still be able to keep the camera steady, we used one in england and it seemed to work really wel and it was easier to follow the riders on that than the tripod.

Hey thanks for the feedback guys ill keep it in mind for next time.
Yes i know the filming is a bit dodgy but the quality decreased when i put it on youtube so yeh couldnt b helped. And yes the wind was pretty s**t on that day so very tame riding haha. The software i use is pinnacle studio if u hav ever heard of it cwamit, which i just use cus i know how, as i make skydiving movies for my old man.
Hey charl dv im not sure how well u know Australind but it was filmed at a place called Knapps channel bout 5-10 minutes up the road from the place we usually kite(near the shopping centre and BP), but its not that great cus of the poles although on a southwester it might b alright.

Cheers

I always thought skydiving is tame up to a point of course. that being when you realize your parachute won't open. .

Keep at it guys! Tips - get a tripod. Sunny day needed, short grabs, close ups, not too many boring bits Try - load up, jump, cut. next frames. Get the idea. Keep it intense. Good music. 20 minutes of footage should condence to 2 minutes of ACTION
