Hey people.

Trying to fix up an old slingshot REV that I bought.

The depower line needs replacing ane its missing a donkey dick.

Anybody know what type of line the depower is? Ive only got a small piece to go off, but it seems very soft unlike normal marine grade lines that have a waxy hard feel. This line is soft like some sorta cotton?
Any help appreciated.

Also trying to get my hands on either a velcro replaceable donkey dick , or a new QR system. Has anybody got something laying around unwanted, and willing to sell??

Cheers all!

It's called Dyneema, I believe usually 6mm in thickness that is used for kite depower ropes. Preferably you'd use the manufacturer's replacement parts so you know they fit right and are the correct length. Otherwise you can get Dyneema elsewhere, from a sailmaker for example.

Don't replace depower ropes with cheap lines, Last week I've had to rescue a runaway kite in 30 knots far from the shore from a guy who decided to replace his with cheap Bunnings nylon rope...

Hey christian....
Appreciate your help, but I don't think this is dyneema. I know what dyneema should feel like and this is way too soft.

Also, this line looks to have a different thread pattern.
I'm starting to think that maybe the previous owner made up a cheap short term solution, as its just taken an hour to get this old soft & freyed line out of the clam cleat. This feels really soft like cotton or hemp. Can't be right??

I've compared it to other marine grade lines and it has a completely different look & feel.

Compared to this 6mm that was used on the vang of my laser.

Look at the weave pattern.
Am I going mad??

I'd be more trusting of the 6mm than the 8mm??
What's anybody think?

Can anybody tell me the difference before I put my life on it??

Dyneema, Amsteel, spectra... All the same thing. Two are brand names for the material. They come in different numbers of strand too -- well-worn, 12-strand 8mm in the top pic. Doesn't look like it needs replacing to me.

Dyneema is strong stuff, sk75 or 78 is most and 6mm has an average breaking load of nearly 4 tonne

Hey man. I have 2 brand new depower ropes. Try to get a measurement and I'll see if they fit.

That's pre comp stick rope. Just the one thick major rope. (No return)

im tempted, but what im thinking of doing is making a little custom bar set-up.
thinking a PU coated centre line and might have to change out the C'loop.this C'loop is beaten, and the bearing is busted. figure I just swap it out.the bar is fine, the 2mm lines are mint condition, it's just that depower line is looking a little soft & fluffyand the C'loop is pretty tired. Im sure its served well!and ive got to do something about that CSS line dangling everywhere....... if I havnt made it up in next few weeks I will take you up on it 100%youre a good man!

Yip the correct rope it is a deme ems rope and it is 8mm thick and u can buy it from the sail shop, only difference they use a silver one where u buy a white type, tie a knot on 1 side then thread it through the bearing, if u like I have a brand new chicken loop and lines
