Does a kite get heavy ( er ) over time.

Talking years...I have an 08 cab switchy. It is a great kite, however, I feel its not as easy to re-launch and to fly in light winds as maybe a new one would be.

Does a waterproof protective coat wear off ( if there is one ) making the kite porous?

Cheers Billy.

I think it gets porous more see through as it gets older which would make it litter not heavyer . I would say it is more of it just dosnt fly as good as the newer kite . Have an old 06 model and dragged it out the other day still a great kite and flys great . But compared to a 2012 kite the old one is slower in steering and sooooooo much heaver on the bar . thought I was going to put my elbow out with the amount of pressure required to steer it . But in its day I thought it was a fast turning lite bar kite . In a word progression .

If you drop it in the drink it gets heavier and because it's worn it takes way longer to dry, think there is a coating you can apply but I've heard once you do it's harder to patch due to non stick coating.

I do know that over time the canopy becomes more porous and will allow more wind to pass through it . This will make the kite less powerful than a new kite with exactly the same shape and area . Stretch the canopy over your mouth and blow , feel with your hand how much air goes through and then try it on a new kite . You will feel the difference .

you need to kite more often, kgb( kite gear box) do a kite spray that protects and renews the look of older canopys, an older canopy absorbs water and moisture for sure

Stuff stretches and the canopy is no longer the optimised shape that it once was. Thus yyou loose performance.
