I have been trying to work out the safety system on my Fluid kites. The safety line on my Blade kite comes down through the housing (or whatever you call it) and hooks in to a ring inside the chicken loop. From looking at other peoples bars, this seems to be fairly common.

But on the Fluid the safety just stops at the rings above the bar. This is how it was when I bought it, and I can't really work it out. Someone else with a newer Fluid posted some pics of the bar and mentioned that the setup the way I have it is the 'advanced' setup for kitelooping.

So I thought I'd try and find a manual and work out if the bits and pieces that came with the kite can be used to take it back to a beginner friendly setup.

But I can't seem to find the web site. Does anyone know why? Am I being stupid?

Failing that, are there any other fluid owners out there who can explain it all? :-)

Would appreciate a little help! Thanks :-)

I have an Ego 2009 or 10 not sure , my bar the front lines connect to a ring about 2m up and a mini 5th line connects to the ring runs down through the centre hole in the bar and then a hole through the quick release. I can take pic of the quick release if you can't figure it out.

As far as I can recall the owner of fluid is Steve, very reasonable guy to deal with and I am sure he could give you help of some sort.

If you can't find his details, let me know as I have them somewhere.

I love my Ego, keen to try his wave kite out sometime.

I have a bar the same as your describing and when i first set it up and had a look at it i thought, What the fck is this!
Above the bar safety line?!
I attach my safetly line to the depower ring which im sure is not the right way to do things but be fcked if i want my leash tangled up around the bar when i loop it!

Yeah Suniboy, I have the exact same problem. I attach the safety under the bar direct to the loop that is above the bar. But then if the kite loops the whole lot gets tangled.

I've had a couple if helpful people offer some advice, so I'll post some pics and get it sorted. Sounds like its a setup problem rather than a kite problem

Thanks for all the help so far :-)

So here's the bar. I clip my leash in under the bar and into the red loop. This seems to work fine (I've pulled the safety a couple of times and been fine), but it gets all tangled if the kite loops.

Sounds like there is a solution. Would love some photos of how the correct setup should look!

I had some thoughts on bringing the safety line under the bar but.....
You could make up a line that runs through the bar and attaches to some kind of home made clip on the chicken loop release, only problem is that the current safety line has a ring at the end of it and that seems to keep the line from running past the swivel.
If you eliminate the ring then the safety line wont have anything to stop against.
Leaving the ring attached and running a line down through the bar would mean that every time you pull the safety the ring will get stuck in the bar preventing the deployment of the flaging line.

Thought about changing the swivel design but by the time you do that you might as well buy an aftermarket bar

Any other thoughts.
Tom that bar looks to be the same as mine

Has anyone had problems with tuning the steering lines?
From new my lines where about 10cm long then one another.
Not real happy about QC

looking at that pic. This is an older style setup, quite common a couple of years back.

For "normal" wind conditions you should be able to connect your leash to the depower toggle below your bar. In theory when you hit your release the depower line is pulled to double its length, this is enough to depower your kite 90% where it should be sitting on the water.

This is not as good as fully flagging the kite, which is what the red handle is for just above your swivel. When kiting at the upper limit of your kites range I would recommend connecting your leash to the red handle.

As a side note, who is the Fluid agent? I need a new bung for the kites. I have two fluid kites, and only one bung! :-)
