Hi I'm after an electric kite pump for my ULI stand up paddle board: www.uliboards.com Are these things available in Melbourne? I believe the slingshot is the one I should be looking at?
hahaha wow. never seen them before! are they hard to pump up? like would it be hard to do it with a normal kite pump. My girlfriend has been thinking of suping but she's tiny and would totally struggle carrying a normal board. just wondering how much hard work it is to pump one of these up compared to a kite? does anyone know?
just read in their forum that its not recommended to use an air compressor. maybe u already know that though. ![]()
Hey, I just watched the video on their website.
Finally this fat boy can ride his fatboy to the beach for a fat ride... too cool.![]()
They don't take long to pump up by hand - about 5 mins. But I find the last few pumps really take it out of you and I've been getting lower back pain from doing it too quickly.
I read that an electric pump is not recommended but I don't think back pain is recommended either.
Here's the video that inspired me to buy the board.
try a bravo pump .its a 2 stage pump wich can be set to pump up 2 12 psi and cuts off automaticaly when it reaches correct pressure. about $ 400 from kite power. i have one and it pumps my 13m to 8psi in 2 and a half mins
Thats SO cool!
Some torture test!
Looks like if there is no surf you can have almost as much fun crash tackling it !
I still cant believe it doesn't fold in half when fat boy stands on it ! Freekin amazing !
Whare dya get em ??
It's a funny story. I already have another Naish stand up board that I've been using to go fishing, surfing and general paddling about in flat water. I was looking for a board that was sturdier that I could land on remote islands and just go fishing for the day without being bothered with dogs and people hanging around me saying "caught any fish mate" and starting stupid conversations. Also wanted something for my kids to use that was less likely to hurt them and others in the surf.
Anyway, I was at home drinking one Saturday night and came across that video. I thought that this board had not only been road tested it had been "steamroller" tested. I was very impressed, so I proceeded to google for the board. I found one a few minutes later on the www.c4waterman.com website and couldn't get my credit card numbers entered quick enough.
When I sobered up I'd realized what I had done and said nothing to my wife. I was sent an email informing me it had arrived in Melbourne from Hawaii that Wednesday - it came air freight - and I had to break the news to my wife then - she had an absolute fit. Had to sleep in another room for a day or two. By the time the board came through customs and couriered to my house it had cost me another $500. So all up it came in at $1,500.
Anyway, the board is great - it weighs about 16kg, a bit heavier than my other board, and rolls to the size of about two sleeping bags. I've taken it out many times and even put it in my luggage on a flight to the Gold Coast last week. In many ways I prefer this board to my Naish - it was the best purchase I've ever made while drunk.
Thanks for the advice about the pump. I'll have a look at that one.
There is supposedly a distributor of the Uli in Australia - if you can get hold of him his name is Fabio: uliboards@bigpond.com
Check ebay, you can buy a 12 volt compressor which will do 150 lts / min and pressures up to 80psi. I have one for my kites , works great and only cost around the $100 with freight.
