hey
Im planning to go to Perth in Jan and need to take my car but really don't wana do the drive 2 days after i get my license, and seeing as i can't rent a car ill need to take my own.
Has anyone ever taken a car from melbourne to perth or back or anywhere in the country and what is the best/cheapest way to do it.
if there are no real options i guess ill just have to make the drive...long way!
thanks
ewan
You can put your car on a train from Melbourne to Perth - It costs $898 one way.http://www.greatsouthernrail.com.au/site/travelinfo/motorail/unaccompanied_motorail.jsp
I can understand your reluctance to do the trip so soon after getting your license but doing the crossing is supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Maybe you can find someone who would be willing to do the trip with you so you have some company in the car and can take turns (that is if you are willing to let someone drive your car!)
Not only that there will be so many beaches to hit up along the way! (Stop at Esperance, go across to Augusta/Margs)
Good luck with your driving test mate!
What date? Sounds like a fun mission, plenty of time to kick your ass at "rat on a scooter" game. I could be keen, just for a laugh
Hey, What car is it and does it have a tow hitch? I need to get a Boat over here from Melbourne. I could come with you and share the fuel costs
ha trust a p plater with your boat!!
nothing like a bit of weight pushing the rear end at speed on those bends before the gold town.
Hey little fella - DONT DRIVE AT NIGHT!!
find some crew on gumtree - hot backpackers to share the trip and you will be sorted. you can also hire a car at freo car hire - car dealer/hire of old trade in's etc. served me well in w.a. cheap and easy even if your young - just need credit card
Met a guy in exmouth who just put an add in gumtree to share petrol etc. Top fella, although was frustrating each morning seeing a 20 yr old german girl getting out of his tent, him with a big ass smile on his face.
Yeh advertise my friend...
and yeh don't drive at night (ya not experienced enough - dangerous enough when you are ) d force yourself to stop every 2 hours, regardless of how ya feel.
Don't fight sleep, ya tired, stop. You already haven't a clue about driving (a license can't teach ya experience), so add tiredness to the mix and your chance of farqin up exponentially increase.
Don't be a stat...
Oh yeh did i say advertise...ha ya probably end up with some fat french bloke who keeps forgetting where he put his wallet...
Oh jan, just add, stay south as possible, great winds that time of year down our south coast. take more than two days, too many good spots to kite that time of year.
If ya head to mandurah PM, show ya aorund.
cheers for all the advice guys, i got a couple of offers now and 2 people who are probs in so all good. keen to take my car over as well coz I'm guna be there for over a month so with all kites and stuff i don't wana be raped by excess luggage fines. Cant wait to get over there, hopefully the breezes come back.
