water is damn cold, take a 4/3 steamer. i was there for about 5 weeks over dec/jan and the water was 8 degrees. the wind absolutely cranked, i took a 9 and wished i had a 6. if you head up the east coast the water gets warmer but the wind is not as reliable. there are some good sized waves around cape town, see if you can hook up with someone for a downwinder.

You can get away with a shorty because the air temp is about 25-30 most days.

Wind starts light and progressively picks up through the day, sometimes to 35+ so I'd go with a 10/6 if you can.

My brother lives in Cape town. I may go over.Take a 10m and a 7 or 6 The wind really Cranks. Buy a surfboard there Save on luggage. Custom boards / Boards can be cheap. take a 3/2 and Radiator or similar top layer if it gets real cold There are great places around Cape town. Tableviw to Bloubergstrand is cross shore winds and can get big Surf. Muizenberg Is almost dead on shore and smaller surf with a gently sloping gradient warmer water So can be fun on a Twiny. You Need A car to make the most of it. Hundreds of of little beaches on Peninsular that can be Surfed. There are epic flat water spots an Hour and a half North or Three hours East PM me.
