Hi all , im new here ,the names Dan.
Im 4 weeks into kiting , 2014 switch 13 m kite
and just up on the board..about 7 hrs total
been out in the surf once and think its time to buy a buoyancy vest.....
Any types to steer clear of?
And any input on a good brand would be helpful.
Also will the vest interfere with my waist harness?
will I have to buy some other harness to use the vest?
cheers
You can get awesome low profile impact vest from pro wake at worongary on the gold Coast. I use my when i cable and boat tow on the river.

Your harness has flotation...
If you still can't stay high enough, get yourself to the pool for some water tread training.
Hi Dan
I've been using the NP High Hook for about 18 months. First with a waist harness, and now with a boardshort harness. Works really well. Comfy, good floatation, well made. Makes learning waterstarts etc much easier when you are sitting higher in the water and not waisting energy trying to stay afloat, and provides great impact protection for the inevitable wipe outs.
If you cant find a store in NSW that sells them, try Surffx on the Gold Coast. surffx.com.au. Thats where I got mine.

yeah no problem treading water etc...just occured to me when I was on the edge of a dead zone behind the island,it took a lot of energy out of me to relaunch
and tread water , the kite rotated couple times before it decided to launch.....by the time it did I was a lil zapped..
was thinking if it rolled and crossed the lines , the 200m return to beach after self recovery would have been exhausting for my first time in the surf...
a vest will protect me a lil more if this happens...
cheers wicksy....ill hit up the surffx site for a browse
Ur 4 weeks in and were hoping kiting was more pleasant then the very minor kitemare u experienced..
It gets worse, and no placebo makes the process more enjoyable except new gear and keeping the stoke ![]()
I have a liquid force impact vest. It does provide some additional floatation which is nice. It useed to ride up a lot (I wear a seat harness) I sewed some buckles on to attach to hharrnes. works fine now
Have been using a Jet Pilot Nighthawk combined buoyancy and impact best for a year or so. It's comfortable, fits with waist and board short harnesses and is standing up to pretty frequent use. Worth a look. Kitepower in Sydney has them I think.
