I know it is hard to give advise without seeing someone ride but I am having trouble boosting my new sb3 12m when i am overpowered. Normally I can boost fine but when at the top of the windrange (still o.k. riding) I am getting pulled a lot downwind. I have just been leaving it at the 10 oclcok position and then sending it and egdeing. last few times started pulling me almost around backwards downwind and i smashed my back and shoulder. any ideas?

your not edging hard enough.
If your overpowered, go with a smaller kite; its alot easier to jump with a smaller powered up kite, then it is with a larger depowered kite

you should get realy confident with boosting in lighter conditions before trying to boost when your over powerd and also make sure your still holding an edge when you boost the kite

I had similar problems when i swapped from my Ozone Instinct to the Naish Alliance. Turned out i was just being lazy and not holding my edge hard enough. The Ozone's massive depower was compensating for my lack of board skills so when i started riding the Alliance it showed up every little flaw in my technique (or lack of).

Ride faster + edge harder = to the moon (or atleast it feels like it!)

Keep the kite a bit lower to be able to edge harder if you're really overpowered. Edge hard as ****, pop of the water and send the kite over your head at the same time.

If your going downwind too much then your sending the kite without parking it straight afterwards.

It was already said but get some more speed up and do exatcty what your doing. You will go downwind pretty far but the extra height from the speed will sure make it worth it. Remember to pop tho.

Then try timing a jump with top speed off a wave or pop right when a gust hits you.

To stop going so far downwind, send the kite to the top of the window and park it there. You wont jump as big but it will stop you from going downwind so far. I'm guessing your sending the kite a bit low in the window. That is the trick to getting more distance in your jumps when combined with speed.

thanks for the responses guys. I'll have a lot of time to think it over while my shoulder heals...Had only been a couple of times this year due to no wind and then injured my shoulder on the first day of what's now been two weeks of 20+ everyday!

How much does the board matter in boosting?. Does it make a huge difference what board you are riding

The aim is to hold an edge till the kite rips you up when it hits the boost zone. If you ar'nt railing in hard the power is getting wasted skipping downwind.
