Hi I guess I am an intermediate kiter - can do front and backrolls in both directions and ride switch easily and comfortably in both directions, but I have problems boosting big in my off direction. I go up fine but come down with the kite pulling me at an odd angle.
I think it is just a back to technique thing, but I don't really know the correct technique for a boost. Can someone please explain the correct technique?
e.g. Some say to bring the kite up slowly to 10 before you send. Is this because if you send from too low it's not so at the edge of the window and therefore pulling you more downwind?
Also when you edge and then pop do you just hold the edge of the direction you are travelling or do you actually try and turn into the wind like I read somewhere?
On my good side I have experimented with just edging in the same direction, and also turning into the wind etc. It all works o.k. but it seems to me the better I get the less I know about the dynamics of the simple boost.
Everytime I think about it too much I stuff it up.
Hi myusernam,
The technique of boosting big is different for different types of kites. The one thing that remains constant across all types is timing and edge and release. If your timing sux, so does your airtime! If your edging and release sux, you'll swing under your kite and likely luff your kite.
How hard you send your kite and what you do with it once you start ascending depends on the kite. General rule of thumb is send your kite from between 10.30 & 11.00 back to around between 12.30 & 1.00pm. Generally the kite needs to be sheeted in (Pulled in on the bar to increase power and turning response) from before you send it (pulling in on your back hand to redirect the kite in the opposite direction to that which you are travelling), until after you have landed.
Would anyone be interested in an afternoon boosting clinic? That could be fun.
I'd be happy to bring along a few awesome boosting kites if anyone is willing to challenge their own altitude PB. [}:)]
How about it?
Good winds,![]()
PS. Better? ![]()
Dont know if a clinic would help me or not but I know I suck big time boosting on my off side
So unco its plain embarassing. Too embarassing to even practice regularly so its not getting any better. I know all the rules and try my best to follow them but its a joke. ![]()
Biggest problem is Im goofy so my off side is also the side I need to boost off waves properly. (using the back side just isnt the same
)
Be really good to get it sorted so count me in if it happens.
Surfing Boyo - You've done 153 Posts and you don't know about 12 oclock being the position your kite is in when it's directly overhead, and all other oclocks relate to that.
C'mon, Darren couldn't be making it any easier.
well you see, its like this. 10-12 might be abit too early in the morning, so u might have to try from about 1-2 maybe even 3 if your not too tired i noticed a few people talking about 12.30. I find its too early and im not 100% awake yet, but all for their own ah well, hope this helped your jumping ;)
Its so good to know I'm not alone! I too suck at boosting on my off side. (I'm not that great on my on side either really!)
I started out sort of even when learning, but I seem to be getting more one sided every time I go out.
I would be interested in a Boosting Clinic for sure.
