help please , whats the best kite board to go from twin tip to surf, making it easier to jibe , i ride toe side but it gets very tiring in the surf , havent jibed for 6 years so i want an easy transition , help please
Hi mc,
It's pretty hard to give you an opinion when we know nothing of the type of surf you get at your local wave spot. The board should be purchased with the waves in mind and then suited to your weight.
Tell us what waves you have : 2ft -3ft hollow and sucky or full and barely breaking etc
Let us know whether it will be onshore, offshore, cross on, cross off etc
Need to know body mass or weight
Do you plan on doing freestyle waves as well as wave riding?
and finally need to know whether you want to ride using kite power or wave power.
At least then I have a much clearer picture of what you want and what will suit you.
Cheers mate,

try a underground freewave , nice all round board that's easy to jibe, ultra low wind (like 14 knots on a 9 meter) and i use from onshore slop up to double headers and 35 knots....just demo it and see for yourself..
pfr, you're dead right, 6' to 6'6". An old board, any old board, be prepared to destroy it cos that spreader bar don't like surfboards! If you can pick up an old surfboard from the throwouts that's perfect cause you can bet the fins are already removed, so you get to set them up parallel. Have your TT ready & switch back to that when you're getting too frustrated. Don't despair, you'll pick it up quick enough.
cheers

hi it may well be a 5'8 that i have , didnt measure it too well, going with your suggestion maybe the best idea as you have been through the same trial as me on the same board , which is great to know , i think KP have a second hand one in brisbane , i'll give steve a call to find out
by the way what kites do you use with yours
cheers
i got a 6 foot triggerbros hydro wich is a quady fish wich is awsome fun but crappy quality you can get one brand new for 320
Stick with riding your surfboard toeside, try loosening the straps so that you can get your toes closer to the rail, or losing the straps completely.
As advised in the other surfboard thread at the moment, try grabbing a small cheap shortboard, something around 6', wax it up, keep your kite low, bend your knees and go for it. You'll find toe side much easier when you can move your toes closer to the rail.
I rode mostly last years rebel 7 meter from16 knots to 25 and this year have A 10 rebel and 7 Vegas and 8 gastra but have used 9 meter cabrinha convert as well with it in 14 knots just past weekend.
Try to get a demo , I am stoked as on mine!
Have to agree on the underground freewave , got mine ( 5'8" ) a few months ago and its brilliant , gibing is a piece of cake with the deck covered in tread :) and it steams upwind , might not be perfect but I have found it a great transition from a twintip .
Tried several other surfboards , North , Best , slingshot , but didnt feel really comfortable on any of those as I did on the freewave .
Highly recommended .
I have a freewave 5'8 as well and has to be close to the ideal board as one can get for Prth conditions. (onshore slop). You can gybe this board with your eyes closed, very easy to ride strapless because of the padded deck, great in small to medium sized waves and you can jump the crap out of them with little risk of breakage.
I think they make them in a 6'2 as well.
