I've planned a 2 week pilgrimage down south WA over new years break. Fishing, diving, surfing, kiting, camping, etc.
Coming along are several 4wd's, jet skis and a decent sized boat.

So I'm curious to hear from anyone who has tried kiting cyclops? or visited it and would be able to give me some good information on wind, swell, best approach to tackling the scary as **** lump in the middle of nowhere. Most of the people joining me are from esperance and know the area well but I'd like to hear the info from a kitesurfers perspective.

There will most likely be a 4-6 person crew on the big boat and a jet ski or two running around. Been kiting for 9 years now with plenty of days in heavy surf so I feel I am ready to take it on (although I doubt anyone is every truly ready for the beating cyclops can dish out, but I'm gonna give it a go).

All advice appreciated

p.s. any other spots I should check out while down there please let me know.

We were going to windsurf it years ago and had good intentions but found you just can't get cross shore wind and the swell required (needs a big swell)
It very rarely works when you have wind in the right direction/s (spent 4yrs waiting)

You sound prepared but having seen it working I can say it is fkn heavy. Take two of everything you think won't need, and 3 of everything else.
Given nearest medical help is volunteer ambo's over an hour away, sea rescue is 3hrs away (if you are lucky) etc - let all the authorities know your plans.

i'll definitely be praying to huey for the next month for some good swell. fingers crossed i get a day that works

yeah the time between medical care is probably the most concern i've got right now. most of the guys coming are trained in sea rescue and first aid but the impact vest and helmet are definitely making the trip with me

don't worry harry, we should have a few cameras going the whole trip. i was hoping to get a gopro shot from helmet cam so we'll see how that works out. wide shot in the belly of the beast could be cool...

Ouch sounds heavy, might be fun for .0005 of a second though.

I would also say that the right direction wind is almost impossible to get, offshore speed runs are pretty useless. You could probably find better waves to kite.

Winter has the right conditions to kite, but not really the kind of conditions that many would volunteer to take you out on their boat. There are far better waves to kite on a SE summer seabreeze round there, you will drive right past one on the way.

Jeepers, admire your guts, that looks like a horrendous wave to try and kite.

There's a bodyboarding clip on YouTube somewhere that has a dude kiting cyclops so weird he just pops up out of nowhere and it's howling off shore , gives it a fair crack to

I was really hoping you would go there, get pulled wayyyy out by a rip and then get rescued by a French ship bound for France.

Oh Weird Ed.. Your not called weird for no reason eh?

I can swim, self rescue and read conditions well..

No need to be rescued by frogs but well done for your attempt at being funny on Seabreeze.

I was not joking. I really think the frogs could teach the little wombat a thing or two about the wide world and its different cultures.

Yeah I think it's on the old tension bodyboarding movies in amongst them trashing Kmart, spewing everywhere and riding lids. Dude emerges from wave looking similar to a breached calf where the farmer puts a rope on its leg to rip it from the cows insides.

yeah the tension vid shows a few waves, it was Benny Wilson in the movie. he kited it a few years ago now- for those of you that have the WA kite movie Fireaway 2 there is a whole section of it on there at the end of the movie.
